We are expecting a baby brother for our daughter [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and are desperately looking for a name!
We are a Belgian (Dutch-speaking) family, but we travel a lot, have lived abroad etc, so we are looking for “international” names for our children. Meaning, a name that could be just as easily pronounced in say English, [name_m]French[/name_m], [name_m]German[/name_m] and Spanish (although the pronounciation might be different) and is also not unfamiliar to most people, so preferably a classic name.
We also prefer a name that is not at the top of the popularity charts, although I realize that can be very local. E.g. for our daugher we agreed on [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], a not so popular variation of the more popular Amélie in Belgium, and only afterwards realized it was on top of the charts in UK and USA
Names we like but won’t be considered as (children of) friends or family have these names: [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Quinten[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].
Thanks a lot for your replies. Until now nothing which I would add to our current list I’m afraid.
That list is [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m]… but we don’t seem to be really convinced of any of them !
I like [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] as well, but hubby isn’t crazy about those.
Seems though that for a boy we have a preference of having some “strong” consonants in them, like T, K, R.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]/[name_m]Zacharias[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Connor[/name_m]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Christian[/name_m]
Guess what… now that we were moving towards [name_u]Theo[/name_u] a 2nd cousin of mine just had a baby [name_u]Theo[/name_u] ! They live in the US though, so not exactly close, yet I don’t want anyone to think I copied their name…
I was thinking of offficially naming him [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u], although an “official” nickname is not that usual in Belgium, people are usually just called by their birth name hence also a lot of shortened names as birth names. But I have the feeling [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] sounds a bit more classical and classy than the short [name_u]Theo[/name_u] maybe ?!
