[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m]. I love it so much, that I’m having trouble finding a boy name name that compares for little brother due in [name_f]May[/name_f]!
Our top two choices right now are:
-Banner [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
-Truman [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
What do you think?
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] has Biblical meaning to us without being too “religious” and is why we chose it and adore it so much. We wanted the same for baby brother, if possible but so far there is nothing we have found. [name_m]Banner[/name_m] and [name_m]Truman[/name_m] are the only two names we’ve liked so far.
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] is pretty amazing! I can see why you’re having trouble with #2.
I think either of your choices would work. [name_m]Banner[/name_m] is interesting (at first I misread it as Tanner) but I like the symbolism of raising a banner, and that it’s a word name to match [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] without being too obvious.
Truman’s meaning fits in well with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], and it has a nice weight and seriousness to it.
I like [name_m]Paul[/name_m] as a middle name, too.
I want to suggest lion names like [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Lionel[/name_m] to you - because they evoke a similar “Biblocal but not religious” feel to me, and provide a nice counterpoint to Shepherd’s meaning. It might be a bit too much for you, though!
shepherd banks is gorgeous! i love how fresh banner and truman are, i think they’re both solid options, though i’d vote truman (great meaning) over banner (might get tiring with “tanner?”).
i’ve seen religious families use some of these with some nice attributed meanings:
oliver
truett
booker
forrest
gilbert
leander
evander
rudy
ira
sylvester
river
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] is delightful - I think it matches [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] well and the ‘Tru’/True sound makes it feel almost like a virtue name which gives it those subtle biblical vibes.
I really like [name_m]Truman[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and @Aren suggestion of [name_m]Truett[/name_m] for you. If you don’t mind another S beginning I’d suggest [name_m]Slater[/name_m] or [name_f]Sutton[/name_f].
I’m not sure if any of these fit your naming style. From the info you gave, besides wanting a religious connotation without being obvious, I think you like occupational and surname names for boys. They’re equally strong and soft and don’t lean unisex
I like [name_m]Truman[/name_m] of the two. As other have said, it has a similarly honourable, gentlemanly feel and it feels more substantial than [name_m]Banner[/name_m].
I like the gentleness of [name_m]Banner[/name_m] but my immediate response it feels possibly a little too noun-y after you have [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] (as another occupational role), it almost (to me) sounds like a title (“please welcome our flag bearer, [name_m]Paul[/name_m] Jones”), and doesn’t seem as distinct a name given Shepherd’s middle is [name_m]Banks[/name_m] (same first letters). Might just need more time with it as it is a lovely word to say - maybe nicer to say the [name_m]Truman[/name_m] (I just like the meaning and heft of Truman).
You already have some great suggestions and probably some repeats:
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] (one of my fave names)
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (Gabe)
[name_m]Micah[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Truett[/name_m] (though I prefer Truman)
[name_m]Merritt[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m]
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m]
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiernan[/name_m]
[name_f]Tierney[/name_f]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_m]Kiernan[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Jude[/name_m] (may need a longer middle name)
[name_m]Everett[/name_m]
[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestions, sorry if there are any repeats!
[name_m]Deacon[/name_m]
[name_m]Abbott[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]

[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Wallace[/name_m]
[name_m]Seth[/name_m]
[name_m]Enoch[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Mason[/name_m]
[name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]
[name_m]Livingston[/name_m] (I know it looks like a mouthful, but it’s only 3 syllables, like [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], etc.)
[name_m]Pierce[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_m]Elias[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Valor[/name_m]
[name_f]Palmer[/name_f]
Of the two names, I would go with [name_m]Truman[/name_m], though it wouldn’t be MY top pair with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m].
Some biblical boy names for you (as I am [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and had many of these on hand):
[name_m]Asa[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Azriel[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]
[name_m]Noah[/name_m] [name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Joash[/name_m]
[name_m]Israel[/name_m] [name_m]Immanuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Micah[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_f]Calgary[/name_f] [name_m]Roe[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]

[name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Israel[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]
Names in general with not such a strong biblical relation if they even have one:
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_m]Reece[/name_m]
[name_f]Brae[/name_f] [name_m]Ocean[/name_m]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_m]Worth[/name_m]
[name_m]Finley[/name_m] [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Theo[/name_m] [name_m]Issac[/name_m]
[name_m]Mateo[/name_m] [name_f]Jone[/name_f]
I like [name_m]Banner[/name_m] and [name_m]Truman[/name_m] fairly equally, with a slight preference for the latter as a brother to your beautifully named [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a few more ideas for you:
[name_f]Marlow[/name_f]
[name_m]Wystan[/name_m]
[name_m]Nevo[/name_m] (I heard a little boy on the radio with this name this morning)
Your son has SUCH a great name (I’m jealous you got to use [name_m]Banks[/name_m], obsessed with this name)! I get the biblical but not overtly religious feel you’re referring to. [name_m]Truman[/name_m], while not biblical, has a gentlemanly, historical feel that matches [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] wonderfully. plus, I think [name_m]Truman[/name_m] in general is an underused gem (handsome, established, surname-y, etc.)
In my view, [name_m]Banner[/name_m] doesn’t share the same history of use as [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Truman[/name_m], it feels much more trendy and modern. It does match stylistically with [name_m]Banks[/name_m] though- maybe you’d like [name_m]Truman[/name_m] [name_m]Banner[/name_m] as a brother name to [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m].
