The struggle is so real for me with boy names. My son’s name is [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], and I feel like it took me the whole 9+ months to come up with it so I’m desperately searching for a brother name (due in late summer). I love that [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is fairly uncommon (we have yet to meet one and have lived in two state capitals… we had a near miss… I heard someone had one, but I didn’t meet him- lol), but it’s still a classic name. But it also is just a little bit special and magical to me due to its association with Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] and other literary references.
Here are some possibilities (and their issues): Must avoid names that end in C/K sound.
From your options I like [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] best…nickname could be [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_u]Ali[/name_u]…I think [name_m]Ed[/name_m] & [name_m]Al[/name_m] (and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] & [name_m]Alastair[/name_m]) make great sibling names

Obviously biased , but I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] go really well together. They both have that classical, romantic vibe about them and I think they’d make great brothers. I have an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] too, but it was nowhere near as popular when we named him when he was born.
Other suggestions -
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_u]Howard[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Monty[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
Also Irish, and most of these (except perhaps [name_m]George[/name_m]) you don’t hear very often/at all.
I’ve never met another [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] either!
From your list, I think [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] works really well. Also really like the suggestions [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] (especially [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]). I think [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] makes a lovely middle name, but does sound a bit precious to me as a first name.
I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]), [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] all work well with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Maybe [name_u]Theo[/name_u] the best but it will be more popular than [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
I love so many of your names. I just want to add that I, too, love [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] and the nickname that really knocks it out of the park for me is [name_u]Ash[/name_u]. [name_u]Ash[/name_u]/[name_m]Asher[/name_m] are very on trend but [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] is so literary and classic (like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]) that I feel like it works strikes a great balance.
I love your names and think we have similar tastes. I am also struggling to find a boy name! From your list, I quite like [name_m]Albert[/name_m] with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. The nickname [name_m]Albie[/name_m] is to die for. You could also go [name_m]Al[/name_m] and [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. Perfect. I don’t think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is too close to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] but the nicknames are, if you go with nicknames. They don’t have to go by nicknames though! [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is getting quite popular though. You are right about [name_m]Archer[/name_m] being a bit modern with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], and that is why its off our list too, despite our love for the nickname [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is my next pick. He doesn’t have to go by the popular [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - I know a 3 year old [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and it has that same feel as [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] to me.
I like the previous posters suggestion of [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]! Also like other W names to pair with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] such as [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Winston[/name_m].
I’ll suggest some names on our list but I’m sure you’ve already gone over most of them:
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrington[/name_m] or just [name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] doesn’t feel too close, with the nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I love [name_m]Percival[/name_m], [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]George[/name_m]. They all sound good with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], which I love.
If you know too many Declans, and [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] isn’t quite right, maybe you’d like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], or the Irish form [name_m]Laughlin[/name_m].
From your list, [name_m]Albert[/name_m] or [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] are my favorites. I also like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].
I know you have a ton of great responses already, but what about [name_m]Clive[/name_m]? It’s C. S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]'s first name, and it’s the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned that you love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] in part because of the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] connection. I think it matches well stylistically, and it has that same literary specialness, but with more subtlety than something like, say, [name_m]Peter[/name_m].
I like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] the most, I find that it is classy but still grounded enough to not make the set sound like British aristocrats.
I also like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] for the same reasons, though generally I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m], it’s just charming.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I love this one, even next to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]; just go with the nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u] instead of Ted and you’ll be fine
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m] - I find these a little too modern next to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
[name_m]Archie[/name_m] - feels a bit insubstantial
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] - love this one and think it could work, though maybe it’s a tad too common-sounding next to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] - I’m not a huge fan of the look of this one, it has a very retro-vibe to it, I prefer the more romantic [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] next to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] & [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] - I like them but they do create a very aristocratic vibe with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], I do like them together but I prefer something a little more approachable and friendly (less upper-class sounding) with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
