Bryar vs Briar - unisex or no?

I’ve had a longtime guilty pleasure love of [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and have seen [name_f]Briar[/name_f] on many favorites lists more and more around here . Recently, though, I’ve spotted [name_f]Bryar[/name_f] used as an alternative but on both boys and girls in my personal outside experiences.

Technically [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is already a unisex name but has so far been primarily used on girls. What are your thoughts on [name_f]Bryar[/name_f] as a unisex name? Does the y just make it look tryndee as a girl’s name or instead lend itself to appearing more acceptable on both genders?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] curious and thought it might an interesting conversation!

I dislike the look of [name_f]Bryar[/name_f]. It’s a misspelling of [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and I’ve never understood the trend of misspelling names, especially word or place names.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] is unisex to me.

I went to school with a male [name_f]Bryar[/name_f], and honestly looking at it spelled out like that almost looks like a misspelling of [name_m]Bryan[/name_m].

Not really a fan of the name either way.

I would spell it [name_f]Briar[/name_f] either way - I don’t think the y changes whether it is unisex or not.

I can only picture it for girls because of the [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sleeping beauty connection but apparently it’s unisex. Strongly dislike [name_f]Bryar[/name_f], I want to separate the sounds into bry-yar.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] is firmly unisex to me… it wouldn’t look weird on a boy or a girl.
As a [name_m]Bryan[/name_m]… [name_f]Bryar[/name_f] is just no.

I don’t like the look of [name_f]Bryar[/name_f], and I don’t think it makes it more unisex. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is good for either, anyway, I really like it.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] is technically unisex and I wouldn’t necessarily be shocked to see it on a boy, but to me personally, it’s all girl. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] on a boy honestly sounds more like a sprite’s name than a male human’s name, where on a girl it doesn’t seem out of place because of other nature names ([name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], etc.) That said, I don’t think it’s unusable on a boy.

As for [name_f]Bryar[/name_f], I’d probably think the same thing. On paper I’d assume the person was a girl, but I wouldn’t be all that surprised if I was wrong.

I prefer [name_f]Briar[/name_f] to [name_f]Bryar[/name_f] - [name_f]Bryar[/name_f] seems like a spelling error. Neither name seems unisex to me; [name_f]Briar[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] which is a much more feminine association.
