Am I crazy for thinking this name is awesome and considering it as a real possibility? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband points out that it rhymes with a swear, reminds him of a [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_f]Candy[/name_f] movie, could easily lend itself to teasing like “bucket head” or “buck hunter”…and yet I love it! I think it’s cool, masculine & retro feeling. I can picture an old movie star, a surfer, a heavy metal guitarist…[name_m]Buck[/name_m] just sounds like someone who does something interesting with his time
I can kind of see the appeal, but at the same time I’d avoid it for all of your husband’s reasons. Also, there’s the rapey character in Kill [name_m]Bill[/name_m] who has the line “[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_m]Buck[/name_m] and I like to f***.” And then gets his head smashed in a door. Not a pleasant association.
Maybe check out one of Nameberry’s old movie star or cowboy name lists to find similar but more wearable options?
Ditto @geeknamezyo- that was my first association. ‘[name_m]Buck[/name_m]’ as a term has some very negative connotations anyway: rhymes with a cuss word, is racist slang, slang for fighting, slang for umm… a type of adult activity, as well as being a slang term for money. Not good name material. I definitely agree with your husband: I can see the appeal, but maybe these would be less tease worthy:

I see what you mean by it has a tough and gutsy vibe- like a [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Dean[/name_u] kind of character. I agree it’s not usable though- for me it’s because buck is a slang word for money/dollar here- “[name_m]How[/name_m] much did that cost?” “Five bucks.” I wasn’t aware of any sexual connotations.
I’m a fan of the late [name_m]Buck[/name_m] [name_m]Owens[/name_m], but I still wouldn’t use it. I have never heard the sexual or racist connections. Is this outside the US? I love Nameberry because otherwise I might have seriously considered a very offensive name!!
