Buddhist/Sanskrit sibling name for Bodhi?

I was floored by some of the suggestions and care that the forum readers have! Hoping you guys can help us out because we’re struggling for some name ideas. We’re having a boy in a few weeks and still can’t decide on a name. I’d love to have something that would either be Buddhist/Sanskrit, or even Irish/Gaelic if there were an option of overlap.

My wife (Irish mixed) and I ([name_f]Indian[/name_f]) have a sweet 2-yr old boy named [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]. The name is perfectly eastern and western, with spiritual notes that made it a big win for us. It means to “awaken” and not only was there distress in the pregnancy but he certainly brings that to our lives together.

For the second one, we’re also having some pressure to come up with something unique but meaningful.

Someone else - totally unrelated - in a similar position started a Berry thread but they’re expecting a girl. (https://nameberry.com/nametalk/threads/92002-Buddhist-sibling-name-for-Bodhi).

Come on, Berries!! I’m praying that you guys might have some suggestions for a boy - please let me know your ideas!

Thanks so much -

Because in the other thread you said “I have a firecracker of a three-year-old boy named [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]. We are both thrilled about his baby sister due [name_u]March[/name_u] 30th, but I’m struggling with her name.”

So is [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] 3 or 2? Is the incoming baby a boy or a girl? Is it in a few weeks or in [name_u]March[/name_u]? Sorry there are just more plotholes than the Bible.

Sorry for the confusion! I’m not the author of the other thread at all - that’s a totally different couple. Edited the original post to clarify.

No one saw fit to respond. I phrased my question like others in the forums. What did I do wrong?

My favorite Sanskrit names for boys are [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], [name_m]Nikhil[/name_m] & [name_u]Rohan[/name_u]

I don’t think you did anything wrong at all, your question is a difficult one and I think that is why it isn’t getting the responses some others do.
I think [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is a wonderful name, and I can see why you are having trouble finding the perfect match for it. Most Sanskrit names don’t transfer to English as well, or aren’t as familiar sounding to the ear as [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you and your wife any names on your list that you like? I personally am not overly familiar with many [name_f]Indian[/name_f] names, and I don’t know how much overlap you will find between [name_f]Indian[/name_f] and Irish names.
I too believe meaning is an important part of choosing a child’s name and there is a site I like to use called babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com, that allows you to do very detailed advanced searches for names with almost any criteria including origin, gender, meaning, ect. I would recommend going there to see what you can find. I did a quick search for Sanskrit and Gaelic names and a few I found that I think would go well with Bohdi are:

[name_u]Adi[/name_u] (sanskrit meaning ornament, adornment, jewel)
[name_m]Egan[/name_m] (Gaelic meaning little fire)
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] (Sanskrit meaning watchful)
Isan (Sanskrit meaning bewstower of riches)

…and my favorites with [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Kiran[/name_m] (Sanskrit meaning ray of light) - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one, think it goes great with [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] and love the meaning and it is similar to many Gaelic names so it kind of has that feel to it too.
[name_f]Mati[/name_f] (Sanskrit meaning gift of God)
Outside of origin and meaning I think I would look for names that are vowel heavy, as they sound best with [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m].
I hope this is somewhat helpful, and wish you the best of luck in finding the perfect name for your new son!

My friend is Karuna, beautiful sound and awesome meaning.
But it seems you’re looking for boys names so…

Amrit
[name_u]Devi[/name_u]
[name_u]Jai[/name_u]

I know by now you’ve probably already picked a name for your child! I’m sorry you didn’t get much help sooner!
But I am considering [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] as a sibling name for my second child. [name_f]Indian[/name_f] background on my side, and English Australian on my husbands. My first is a boy called Aadi. So i would suggest Aadi
For a good gaelic friendly [name_f]Indian[/name_f] name I would consider [name_u]Rohan[/name_u], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], or [name_m]Kiran[/name_m] too. But I also like [name_f]Tulsi[/name_f], [name_f]Anjali[/name_f], and [name_f]Jaya[/name_f] for girls. Boys names I like are Jivan, Kailash, Aakash.
