[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there
At the moment I’m just building up a list of names but I was wondering what you think of [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] as a girl’s name? Could it work?
Thanks ![]()
I can’t see it. [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] to me, is a little bit like calling a girl “[name_m]Guy[/name_m]” because I’ve only ever seen my brother’s friends’ dads use [name_m]Buddy[/name_m]…on their sons. Could you use it as a nickname for something like Rosebud, there’s lots of options there and [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] is a definite nn possibility.
Imho, no. What about [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] as an affectionate nickname?
Other ideas ~
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Beverly[/name_f]
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]
[name_f]Becky[/name_f]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f]
[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]
[name_u]Bobbie[/name_u]
[name_f]Barbie[/name_f]
[name_u]Brinley[/name_u]
[name_u]Briley[/name_u]
[name_f]Briony[/name_f]/[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]/[name_u]Baylee[/name_u]/[name_u]Bayley[/name_u]
I don’t think it would work. It just reminds me of [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] Glass.
I don’t find it appealing, sorry. But then, I wouldn’t use it for a child at all. [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] is very much only a pet name to me.
I have a male friend named [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] and he deals with so much shit from his name. He’s a really nice guy and takes it as it comes, but it’s still hard on him I think. I just feel like [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] shouldn’t be used a full name***, more of a nickname. Rosebud “[name_m]Buddy[/name_m]” as above is a nice suggestion/alternative!
***I just clicked on the name and see it has a history, though I still don’t think it’s a great proper name and better as a nickname.
[name_m]Buddy[/name_m] is 100% boy to me - not even remotely unisex - and I doubt you’d find many people who’d disagree.
I’m definitely in the camp of it sounding very masculine. It also really reminds me the baker [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] Valastro from Cake [name_m]Boss[/name_m] and of [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s son. It also just feels so nickname-y. I agree with the previous poster that [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] could be a sweet alternative for a girl, and I think with a strong middle, [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] could work as a first name.
You could potentially use [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] as a nickname for:
[name_f]Benedicta[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]/[name_f]Bernadine[/name_f]
[name_f]Brigid[/name_f]/[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_u]Burgundy[/name_u]
Personally I wouldn’t use it other than as a pet name for a son. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if my daughter was named Rosebud, I wouldn’t use it as a nn
I don’t think it’d work. The only Buddys I know are like [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] [name_f]Holly[/name_f] or [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] the Elf (lol), both men. I only consider it an affectionate nickname for males.
My husband often calls our daughters buddy or bud. To me it’s an affectionate nickname for a child, regardless of gender. I wouldn’t use it as a given name though.
[name_m]Buddy[/name_m] is a pet name. You can call a girl [name_m]Buddy[/name_m], but please not as her given name. It’s about one step away from naming her [name_m]Bubba[/name_m].
I don’t really see [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] as a name at all. It’s more of a pet name, and even then, it is generally used to refer to boys and young men. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the word “buddy” I would be less inclined to use for a woman. I’d say “she’s my friend” or maybe “pal” before I’d call her “buddy.” I love seeing names cross gender lines, but naming a girl [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] is like naming a boy [name_f]Missy[/name_f]. The gender connotations feel built into the words themselves.
If you want to go the pet name route, [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] or [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] might substitute. Or even something like [name_m]Bucky[/name_m], while it’s related the term for a male deer, it isn’t commonly used to refer to human boys, so it might work on a girl almost like a replacement for [name_f]Becky[/name_f].
I lifeguard, and my default names I use for little kids who’s names I don’t know are [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] for a boy and Sweetie for a girl so I’d say no
I don’t see [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] on a girl, it’s a pet name mostly used for boys and animals.
It doesn’t work for me, no. I used to call my old male dog “[name_m]Buddy[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Bud[/name_m]” occasionally as an affectionate name (his name was [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]). When we got my new dog, who is female, I would sometimes slip up and also call her “[name_m]Buddy[/name_m]” but it just didn’t seem to work. It felt too masculine for her, so I switched the letters and now I use “Bup” or “Buppy” as my nickname for her. I’m not suggesting you use Bup or Buppy instead, I’m just saying that I’ve played around with using [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] on a girl and found that it didn’t really work.
To be honest it sounds like a dog name to me. I don’t like it as a full legal name for either gender, sorry.
I can’t picture it working. I’ve always called my son, [name_m]Buddy[/name_m], as a pet name. So it’s all boy to me.
