Burliegh Bear....is it too much???

My hubs and I both love the names [name]Burleigh[/name] and [name]Bear[/name]…but do you think the combo is too much? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m hoping this is a troll but if it isn’t…yes, it’s too much. The combo sounds like a description of an animal rather than a person’s name. [name]Burley[/name] and [name]Burleigh[/name] are spellings I would recognize but Burliegh is just odd. I would recommend that you keep looking for a name that wouldn’t cause your son to be ridiculed behind his back.

It’s a joke. The ‘name’ (if there ever really was anyone considering it as such) and this thread.

Boy, its hard to give the benefit of the doubt around here. Things are just too ridiculous.

I say use it. It’s the perfect mix of yewneek and trendy, all rolled into one.

For a pet it’s a great name, for a baby no.

Nope I was being serious. And yes I didn’t spell [name]Burleigh[/name] right…sorry. Our daughters name is [name]Maeby[/name] and there are many that think her name is ridiculous and a joke too…but it isn’t. I am currently pregnant with my last child and we just found out it is a boy…just trying to put some ideas out there.

@juliadoulia-Have you posted in the girls forum prior stating [name]Maeby[/name] was after the Arrested development character?

In terms of the name [name]Burleigh[/name] [name]Bear[/name] that is way too much. I know a lot of other people are against the name [name]Bear[/name] but have you considered using that? Plus I do not like how [name]Maeby[/name] and [name]Burleigh[/name] have the same ending sound it sounds too matchy for a sib set.

[name]Bear[/name] and [name]Maeby[/name]?

I like [name]Bear[/name] better for a first name. You are setting your son up for a lifetime of ridicule with the name [name]Burleigh[/name] [name]Bear[/name]! If he is overweight at all, kids will be all over the “burly bear” thing!

[name]WAY[/name] too much.

[name]Leigh[/name] is more of a girly spelling, [name]IMO[/name]. If you are dying on that hill, how about [name]Burl[/name] [name]Lee[/name]?

I was the one who posted about [name]Maeby[/name] and Arrested Development. Always nice to meet another [name]Maeby[/name] mommy!

Not if you’re naming a teddy bear.

Here’s an idea: Have your husband go by “[name]Burleigh[/name] [name]Bear[/name]” for a month and see how it works for him. Because I’m willing to bet he’ll be laughed out of town.

From Merriam [name]Webster[/name]'s online dictionary:

[name]Burly[/name] adj. strong and heavily built: husky other forms include Burlily adv.
Burliness noun. and hurly-burly

This name sounds to me like a circus performer, particularly one of the ursine nature.
Spelling is not good either.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

If you like the sound, [name]Barlow[/name] and Barham are actual surnames that could function as first or middle names.

This is the most god-awful name I have ever heard. And your poor daughter being named after [name]Maeby[/name] Funke. jesus h.

I think we get the idea that general consensus is that the name is not good, but there is no need to be rude about it or her daughter’s name.

Thank you Stephykneejo - First off I love my daughters name. She isn’t named after [name]Maeby[/name] Funke but that was where we heard that name and we love it. As far as this name combo [name]Burleigh[/name] was to be the first name and [name]Bear[/name] as the middle name so most people wouldn’t even know that was his full name. But whatever I was just throwing out an idea. This was the first post I had ever posted on here. I thought I would get a couple of negative comments but this is crazy. [name]Haven[/name]'t you ever said you don’t like something without being rude about it. I guess maybe this isn’t the nice welcoming community I thought it was.

I’m sorry that there’s been some rudeness. We’re just a little cautious around here of new posters who suggest out-there names - it’s not uncommon for “trolls” to try and stir up trouble or annoy people by posting outlandish names. That said, there’s no excuse for being rude.

I think [name]Maeby[/name]'s pretty and I am glad that you found a name that you love.

As for [name]Burleigh[/name], I think I might prefer the [name]Burley[/name] spelling for a boy, it seems more masculine to me. I do think that [name]Burleigh[/name]/[name]Burley[/name] [name]Bear[/name] sounds a little adjectival, like you’re describing the bear! [name]Bear[/name] or [name]Burley[/name] next to more conventional names might be a better choice. [name]Do[/name] you have any other names you like? We might be able to brainstorm some other first/middle combinations.

Good luck with finding a name for your little boy!

I think the reactions here are far kinder than they would be in real life. Names spelled incorrectly with “[name]Leigh[/name]” on the end are very popular for girls right now. [name]Add[/name] that to the fact you’d be giving your son a name that I have never heard used as a positive description, I have to think there are names that would be better suited for a brother for [name]Maeby[/name]. I like the suggestion of [name]Barlow[/name] by a pp.
