I’m finding myself really drawn to the name [name_f]Caia[/name_f] at the moment. I love that it’s short and strong. I also think it’s a nice name that would work well in a variety of language and places. This last point is especially important as my husband and I will be raising a child with 3 nationalities and 4 languages, likely as expats.
I personally prefer [name_f]Caia[/name_f] to [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], but I’m still a little unsure. Thoughts? Which do you prefer and why?
Any names you would suggest with the same style as [name_f]Caia[/name_f]? Also, what boys names would match?
[name_f]Caia[/name_f] is my choice because it comes from the Latin [name_m]Caius[/name_m] that is also a variation of [name_m]Gaius[/name_m]. And there’s also [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], mother [name_f]Earth[/name_f] (amazing name and representation!). [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is a big no-no for me.
I have only ever known girls (now women) who spelled it [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]. But I think [name_f]Caia[/name_f] may be just as useable especially because of the popularity of Ca- boy names. Both spellings are beautiful. I know that doesn’t help in your decision, so I will say something decisive: if you like [name_f]Caia[/name_f], use it!
I love the spelling [name_f]Caia[/name_f], but I feel like in [name_m]German[/name_m] [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is probably more intuitive to spell. It just feels a bit too trendy for my taste though.
Are you thinking in terms of Kardashian-like K names? [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] has a long history of starting with a K. You didn’t invent it to fit with a trend, but that doesn’t stop other folks from assuming that. It may be another reason to stick with the [name_f]Caia[/name_f] spelling! You could say “it is a hard C, like [name_f]Claire[/name_f]"
I generally prefer the C versions over K ones, [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is one of the few exceptions, probably because I knew [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] before [name_f]Caia[/name_f]. [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is a lot prettier, I think.
Which languages will you be raising your child in (and four languages, wow!)?
I pronounce them differently in English, [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is Kah-ya / [name_u]Kye[/name_u]-ya which [name_f]Caia[/name_f] is [name_f]Cay[/name_f]-ya to me.
Overall I vote for [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] since, to me, it’s a variant of [name_f]Kaja[/name_f] rather than the female variation of [name_m]Caius[/name_m].
I like [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]. I know a girl named [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] (she’s about 11). [name_f]Caia[/name_f] just looks off to me. I think I like K more than C (I prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] to [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] to [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f] etc). If you love it spelled [name_f]Caia[/name_f] though, use that. I prefer [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], but this is your daughter, not mine
We’d be raising them with English, [name_m]German[/name_m], Indonesian and Chinese.
To be completely honest, I was pronouncing them the same way - like [name_u]Kye[/name_u]-uh, mainly because I see the “ai” combination to be pronounced like “eye”.
My opinion about K vs. C seems to vary tremendously. I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] to [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to [name_f]Cate[/name_f]. I might just leave the spelling decision up to my husband since I can’t seem to decide. My other issue is that [name_f]Caia[/name_f] seems more classic to me and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] more trendy, which then makes the decision about sibling names all the more difficult… Or perhaps I am just completely overthinking it.
For those languages I would go with [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]. I generally prefer C over K but this one looks “right” with the K spelling and definitely not trendy/Kardashian-like (like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] / [name_f]Kate[/name_f]).
I don’t know which other names you like but if I had to name siblings to [name_f]Caia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], I’d choose old-world names like [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] and [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] for [name_f]Caia[/name_f] and quirky, European names like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for [name_f]Kaia[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], actually. It has a long Scandinavian history (from what I’ve heard). I think I’m more drawn to it (being a form of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]) rather than [name_f]Caia[/name_f] (which stems from [name_m]Caius[/name_m], as someone else said), mainly because my mom’s name is another Scandinavian form of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. But both look really pretty, and I think [name_f]Caia[/name_f] is definitely more unusual. I like [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] more, though. It just seems more sprite and lively, as opposed to [name_f]Caia[/name_f]'s stately, romantic, almost untouchable air. I see [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] more like a meadow faerie, but [name_f]Caia[/name_f] more like a regal [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_m]Thornton[/name_m] type.
I prefer [name_f]Caia[/name_f] because it’s seems less harsh; but, considering the languages involved, [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] might be the better option. Have you considered Caetana or [name_f]Catalina[/name_f]?
