I came across the name Caier recently. It’s apparently Irish, the name of a (possibly mythological) king of Connaught. Has anyone heard the name before? Any additional information about meaning or etymology? Any help is appreciated!
Or any opinions on the name?
It looks/sounds like a corruption of Cathair to me.
I have no info on the name; I love coming across new names though! This one is intriguing and I hope you’ll find out more about it.
Without your info on the name, I wouldn’t have known which language / culture the name was derived from. I may have guessed [name_f]France[/name_f], actually. So I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it, for sure. But I’d totally be curious and excited if I heard it on a person.
Caier? no sorry I can’ find anything in my Kings of Connaught Info.
The name appeals to me visually - but the pronunciation I cannot guess at if its Irish. it does look like a corruption or an attempted Anglicization of something.
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] e.g. has many similar vowels but it follows Irish spelling rules.
Cahier - notebook, without the ‘h’ from [name_m]French[/name_m]- is nearest.
I’d love to know if you do find more. Thanks
Thanks for your responses! I found the info from a few sources including these two:

There’s also mention of a female Caer in the book. Unfortunately, neither included pronunciation and I haven’t been able to find a source that does.
You might try emailing [name_f]Elea[/name_f] Nickerson. She runs the blog British [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names and is very knowledgeable about names originating from the British Isles. She could probably point you in the right direction.
Oh great idea southern.maple! I’ll update you if she has any more info.
