I love it! I know some people are probably going to suggest spelling it [name_m]Kane[/name_m] because of the [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] story but honestly, I think the name is nice no matter what spelling is used!

Love it! Horrible story but not everybody associates it with that! I know I don’t and there are plenty of babies names [name_m]Judas[/name_m]! So I feel stigmatized as the name is it’s beautiful and would make a great middle!

I wouldn’t use it…I think it’s too strong of an association to burden a child with unfortunately. I feel like others could label him the “bad kid”. It’s pleasing sounding enough just one of the most well known bible stories.
Could you consider something similar sounding like [name_u]Dane[/name_u], [name_m]Thane[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u], etc without the negative associations?
Best wishes

I Really love the name [name_m]Cain[/name_m] but agree that you should use the spelling [name_m]Kain[/name_m], just because of the
associations.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] CurlyC suggestion of [name_m]Thane[/name_m]

My immediate association was the Hurricanes which is a team in the NHL.

If you love it use it !

I wouldn’t use it. [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] is a well-known story from the Bible and then there’s the idiom “raising [name_m]Cain[/name_m]” which means to cause trouble (also inspired by the biblical story). It’s just a lot for a child to carry. If you really love the sound of the name, I would suggest going for something similar ([name_m]Thane[/name_m], [name_u]Cade[/name_u], etc) or using a different spelling ([name_m]Kane[/name_m]).

I like Cain however I would change the spelling to Kane, Kain, or Cane. Cain is the first murderer in the Bible (or on Earth) so I wouldn’t really like my kid named after him. I do think most people will think of Cain and Abel even if they’re not religious just bc the story is so well know.

Names that sound like Cain:
Blane
Crane
Dwayne
Wayne
Lane
Shane
Vane
Maine
Rain/Reign
Zayne/Zain/Zane/etc

If you didn’t live in a society with Judeo-[name_u]Christian[/name_u] culture, it’s a nice name. Unfortunately, you do, and the murder thing is a bit much. Along those lines I also wouldn’t name my kid [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] or [name_m]Judas[/name_m], even though they’re beautiful when divorced of their connotations.

I don’t care from [name_m]Cain[/name_m] because I’m a [name_u]Christian[/name_u]
and all I can think of this the story of [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] (the first murder) but it does have a very nice sound! There are so many names similar to this that I think would work great, like [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_u]Cade[/name_u], [name_m]Cale[/name_m], and [name_m]Cole[/name_m]!

I really like the name, I have no idea about the association people are talking about but if u like it go for.

Love it! I know a toddler [name_m]Cain[/name_m]. From what other people are saying I guess it depends on what country/area you live in. Where I live is very diverse and not very [name_u]Christian[/name_u], so I don’t think it’s an issue. Have I heard of [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_m]Cain[/name_m] - yes, but I don’t know the story well or think that needs to influence your decision.
FWIW I also really like [name_m]Abel[/name_m], but wouldn’t pair them together.

I don’t like it, for the obvious reason that he was the first murderer. And there’s also the saying “raising [name_m]Cain[/name_m]”. I don’t think it has anything good going for it.

I dislike it. It sounds so harsh and all the Cains I’ve met have been naughty or rude

I prefer the [name_m]Kane[/name_m] spelling to separate it from the story.

I feel like the [name_m]Cain[/name_m] spelling looks best though. I do think of the Bible story but I don’t think it necessarily ruins the name. Idk this is a tricky one! It sounds and looks so nice. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom has a student in her class named Bane right now and she didn’t think of any negative associations, she thought it was really unique and cool.

Too [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] for me. I do like [name_m]Kane[/name_m], though.

It’s my first name. The biblical association hasn’t been much of an issue for me… even growing up in a religious household. I often get compliments since its rare for my age group (24 now) and is easy to say/remember.

My parents weren’t even trying to challenge the stigma, as it was an honor name and they wanted it regardless.

I really like the name [name_m]Cain[/name_m]. I’m a sucker for a boys name that ends in N. So cool.

If you aren’t [name_u]Christian[/name_u] I don’t see why you would concern yourself with the biblical story as it is from a religion you don’t belong to. Plus plenty of people use [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (which is derived from [name_m]Judas[/name_m]) and [name_f]Lillith[/name_f].

To me not naming your child a name you really like for the sake of one negative namesake seems misguided. By that reasoning you shouldn’t use [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Wayne[/name_m] (Gacy), or [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] (Dahmer) or [name_m]Ted[/name_m] (Bundy).
