Does this work? I like both [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] so it would be a nice way to use both. I don’t like the look of [name_f]Cait[/name_f].
I guess [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] would work better, but not a huge fan of the spelling.
Is [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] too dated? What about [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? They both give me slight 90s/00s vibes but not overly so.
How would you spell [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]? And would you change the spelling for the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f]?
I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] totally works for [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and I don’t think you need to change the spelling of the full name. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of nicknames aren’t spellied like the full name. I like the [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] spellings. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is 100% a timeless classic to me. [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] does feel a bit late 90’s/early 2000’s to me because this is my age range and I knew tons of them in school but I don’t think its unusable for a new baby.
I think it’s fine to have [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f] “Kate”. I know a few Catherines nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and no one asks about the mismatching first letters. For my own name fixatedness, I’d want them to be the same as each other - but I do prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] (or maybe even [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f], hmmm, no Caitlin) to [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to [name_f]Cait[/name_f] so maybe I would mix it up, not sure. What about [name_f]Cate[/name_f]? I don’t mind that.
Kate/Cate is timeless to me. [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is 90s to noughties but it’s also just go it’s own [name_u]Irish[/name_u] thing going on. Besides, it’s a pretty name and there are a lot of -Lyn names around right now so it would fit right in.
Since there’s [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’, [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ‘Kit’, [name_u]Robert[/name_u] ‘Bobby’, [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] ‘Billie’ etc, I can see it working. [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is my favourite spelling, but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] feels intuitive for [name_f]Kate[/name_f], so I guess if she was to introduce herself as ‘Kate’, people might guess that spelling anyway?
I would probably use [name_f]Cait[/name_f] for [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], just because I like the look of it
I like [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] a lot! It’s my favorite (and most intuitive) spelling of the name, certainly. I do find it a little bit 80s/90s/2000s dated, but not in a glaring or bad way.
I adore [name_f]Kate[/name_f]! That’s a perfectly timeless name. She’s gorgeous—such a ‘little black dress’ name to fit anyone, any time, anywhere. 10/10.
I think [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is totally fine. I think [name_f]Cait[/name_f] is beautiful too. (My cousin [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is sometimes called [name_f]Caitie[/name_f], which I’ve always spelt to align with the spelling of her name. I don’t think it’s that big a deal to spell it any way that you like!)
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is okay for me, but I agree with you, I like it so much better than [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] can definitely work as a nickname for [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and I wouldn’t change the spelling.
I love [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] “Kate”!
However, I’m unsure as to whether the [name_f]Kate[/name_f] spelling would get used. All the Caitlins and Caitlyns I know that choose to go by a nickname spell it like [name_f]Cait[/name_f].
I significantly prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] over [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] though. I’ve been in this dilemma before - considered [name_f]Katelin[/name_f] momentarily but Caitlin’s the only spelling I’d use.
Would you want to introduce her as [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Kate[/name_f]?
I think the spelling issue only matters in writing.
I am sure that there would have been Caitlin’s that choose to go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and spell it that way, so it’s not unintuitive per se - you’d just have to specify it so it doesn’t get spelled [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
If I were named [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], I’d probably go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] spelled that way!
Speaking as a [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], if someone hears my name verbally and doesn’t see the written, they tend to assume “Kate” as the spelling. Only when I say the full name “Caitlin” do people ask how it’s spelled, but they always assume it’s “Kate” if I say the shortened version. So I don’t think you’d run into many problems with using both [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]!
