What do you berries think of the boys name [name]Calder[/name]? I’m in love! Its soft [name]Cal[/name]- start like [name]Callum[/name], the trendy -er ending, and its a surname which is also in trend! I think itd suit a boy of this day. I also think it’d age fine. Any opinions or middle name suggestions?
I like [name]Calder[/name]. I have an friend whose brother is [name]Calder[/name] (though I’ve never met him) and it sounds strong and soft all at once but definitely masculine!
The similiarity to “called her” bothers me a bit. Other than that I like it. It’s one that keeps going on and off of our short list.
Are you saying the beginning like [name]Calvin[/name], or like “cauliflower”? Because I’ve always said it like CAHL-der. I do like the sound, and I know of a man named Caulder, I always thought that was pretty cool. I don’t know if I prefer [name]Calder[/name] or Caulder for the spelling, though.
I don’t think it’ll be a big deal to most, lol, but [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calder[/name] is the girlfriend of [name]Louis[/name] [name]Tomlinson[/name] from [name]One[/name] Direction. lol. Probably not a dealbreaker, but it was my first thought. I do like the sound, but I agree with @babeinthewoods that the similarity to “called her” bothers me a bit. I don’t think that’s really teaseworthy, either, but I think people might hear “called her” rather than a name [name]Calder[/name].
Good luck!
I love [name]Calder[/name], it’s a water name
As mentioned [name]Calder[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] don’t sound alike. It sounds like cauldron, “call-der”
Not a fan. I’m not big on trendy names to begin with though.
Eh. I can’t think of much to say about it - it just sort of leaves me cold.
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Calder[/name]!!! After this post, I am now putting it on my list for my upcoming baby in [name]September[/name]!!! I don’t know where you’re from, but I’m Canadian, and I immediately think of hockey when I say/see [name]Calder[/name] ([name]Calder[/name] cup), which is good thing, because we are looking for a strong hockey-type name!
I like it. It’s one of the few trendy-sounding names that I like, though it actually isn’t popular–it hasn’t yet broken the U.S. Top 1000, if I’m correct. To my ear, it sounds like its meaning–a cold, swift, rocky stream. I love seeing that image when I hear the name [name]Calder[/name], and off the top of my head it’s the only name that gives me that sensation. It also sounds like the Norse Balder, which I like but wouldn’t use because of its teasing potential.
I love this name. Like others, I pronounce it as Caul-der.
I like it. I would go with a more “common” middle name though - calder noah, calder micah, calder liam, calder elliot
Thanks so much!!
I didn’t notice the similar sound to “called her”, but I don’t think its a big deal. Its not a huge teasing potential I don’t think. And I say [name]Calder[/name] with the [name]Cal[/name]- being similar to the name [name]Callum[/name], or like cauliflower. As if you were calling someone. [name]Calder[/name] with more of ahh sound to it is nice as well though I’m not sure I prefer it to the pronunciation I’ve been using.
Hmm, am I mispronouncing [name]Callum[/name] then, if [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Calder[/name] don’t sound alike? I say [name]Callum[/name] to have the same sound as cauldron as well as [name]Calder[/name]. [name]Both[/name] the call sound like making a telephone call.
I don’t really watch much TV and I’ve never seen [name]One[/name] Direction, so I wouldn’t know either [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calder[/name] or [name]Louis[/name] Tomlison… is he/she bad? Though I actually think the entire combination of [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calder[/name] sounds lovely together, even if the association isn’t necessarily a good one he he!
chuckie_3, I’m glad you like the name! I’m American, and unfamiliar with both hockey and the calder cup and such… though I assume that even if I was Canadian I’d be unfamiliar. I’m not a huge sports fan of any sort But I am happy for you! I think its such a handsome name!!
auroradawn, it hasn’t appeared in the top 1000 in the US yet! I’m pretty sure, at least. I feel like [name]Calder[/name] would fit in lovely with all the Archers and Hunters and Tanners of the current trend, yet still feel distinct. I am a big fan of that image in my mind as well! I am a fan of nature names, and I like that [name]Calder[/name] isn’t too blatantly nature-like, in the way that [name]River[/name] or [name]Oak[/name] would be.
gblondie, thanks for the suggestions! [name]Calder[/name] [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Calder[/name] [name]Liam[/name] are both very handsome. Added to my list. My SO prefers mainstream names. I’m not sure how he would react to [name]Calder[/name], but I will have to see. Hopefully pairing it with a traditional name would help.
I like [name]Calder[/name] a lot! Strong and unique, but not too “out there.”
It’s a great name.
[name]Calder[/name] is a very handsome name! It’s unique! I say go for it! I agree that a more common middle name would probably be best though…
lol, [name]One[/name] Direction is the name of a British-Irish boy band. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Tomlinson[/name] is the oldest member of the band, and his girlfriend, [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calder[/name], is a Hollister model (as well as a political student at a fairly prestigious university in the UK, I believe?). I really don’t know that much about [name]Eleanor[/name], but I don’t think [name]Louis[/name]'s a bad connection to the name. Then again, (somewhat embarrassingly) I do admit [name]One[/name] Direction is one of my GP music interests, lol.
The [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calder[/name] association really shouldn’t stop you from using the name. I can’t think of one bad thing about her, so therefore the name [name]Calder[/name] also seems really nice to me. Actually I find it very classy, beautiful and sweet, and I’m assuming that’s because I think of the name as I think of her. I don’t think anyone who’s not a fan of [name]One[/name] Direction would know her, and most fans probably like her, so I can’t see why anyone would have bad associations with the name because of her.
lol, I agree. That’s why I said I didn’t think it’d be that much of a problem. I doubt she’s really known outside of the craze that is [name]One[/name] Direction, and the people who do know of her seem to really love her. She seems like a lovely girl, so I don’t think it’s a problem at all, it was just my first thought. I actually like it because of her, too, and really only associate it with her, as well.
