Crushing on the name [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] at the moment, it’s the first boys name in a while to really get my attention. It’s clearly very popular (although never top 10 as far as I can see), but would you consider it a ‘trendy’ name or just a modern classic?
Which middle names would you pair with [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]? I’m thinking something a little adventurous as [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is rather easy to spell and pronounce and could handle an out there middle name. Surname is two syllables and starts with W.
I think it’s both (at the moment), but generally speaking I think it’s more classic. I like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] the most. It’s a very strong and handsome name.
I like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], and I am not into really popular names. I don’t think [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is overly popular. I like [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] with [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], as brothers. If you are looking for a middle name though, since your last name is 2 syllables, a middle name with either 1, 3, or 4 syllables would sound better. Some suggestions:
@iipostmvh & @mummacat92 - thanks, it’s interesting that you both like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] (with an ‘e’). [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] without the ‘e’ has personal meaning to me because it’s the name of the street I grew up on. It’s not the first time I’ve noticed that people seem to prefer it spelt [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] though.
@felicitysmoak - thanks, I agree he needs a 1 or 3+ syllable middle name with a 2 syllable last name. Flow is important to me too. His father is [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], so [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] are both an option. I really like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] with ‘E’ middle names for some reason… [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] are all on my maybe list at the moment. Still holding out for something a little more unique and adventurous though!
I see [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] as a little trendy, despite the fact that it’s been around for a while. [name_u]Cal[/name_u] isn’t a bad nickname though.
Something about [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] though reminds me of [name_u]Salem[/name_u] witch trial era [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f], it seems kind of like a wasp-y name. Especially [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]! Like the [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] Letter. I’m associating it with halloween and spookiness for some reason.
Associations aside, I feel like I know a lot of people that are naming their babies [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], like it’s the new [name_m]Justin[/name_m] or [name_m]Jason[/name_m].
Trying to think of similar names…
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] is a bit strange to me. I don’t know how you feel about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], but that name I quite like. It just sounds stronger to me than [name_m]Caleb[/name_m].
Thanks, I’m leaning towards ‘classic’ rather than ‘trendy’ but I appreciate your thoughts. I don’t think a handsome name like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] needs a nickname, but if we were to call him anything for short it would probably be “Cub”.
I love names that give off a halloween and spooky vibe so if that’s what you get from [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], then that makes me very very happy!
I’m liking [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (although it’s a little too classic, so I probably won’t use it) and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Florian[/name_u] at the moment.
My GP would be [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_f]Marvel[/name_f]. I know it’s a girls name, but I think it’s a cool name for a boy with the comic association and all.
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is more of a modern classic. I think the difference between [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and something like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is that, while both have ancient origins, [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is very tied to a particular pop culture phenomenon. [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is not. I think it’s an excellent name.
I like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]! It’s very handsome. I really hate the description of trendy, which is like a huge scarlet letter to tack on a name (ha…see what I did there? :D) [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is a very classic, strong, easy-to-spell name that is a great choice.
Thanks everyone, great feedback! Lots of positive thoughts about the name [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] which makes me very very happy. I’m glad people are enjoying [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] as a combo too.
It’s both I guess, but the people I know who have used the name lately are more from the “trendy” school (like two of them were debating between [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]).
