Caleb-- too popular?

[name]Caleb[/name] is the #1 choice name that my husband and I have picked out, but it ranks pretty high on the popular baby name lists. However, this is our first baby, so we aren’t sure how many Calebs there really are in elementary school / preschool right now. What is your experience- lots of Calebs around, or not? Thanks!

[name]Caleb[/name] is my favourite boys name of all time. It’s handsome and ages well. Popularity isn’t an issue for me so I don’t worry about how many Calebs’ there are in schools at the moment. I only know one [name]Caleb[/name] and he is 15.

Well, it’s definitely a popular name. I know of a couple, but they’re older than pre-school. It depends on where you live, really. If you’re in the US, you can check the top 100 by state here to get an idea for your area: Popular Names by State

The two Calebs I know are ten and eighteen. I think it’s a great name and not “too popular” to use.

[name]Caleb[/name] is handsome and rugged. It is popular, but I think its trendy-phase is over. It’s just a nice, substantial name that has entered the pool of familiar names. I know only two - one a teenager, one in his thirties.

I have a [name]Caleb[/name] - he will be 4 on [name]Monday[/name]. I have honestly only ever ran into a handful of them in the past 4 years. I see it around some, but nothing ridiculous and he was the only [name]Caleb[/name] in his daycare program last year and there were a fair number of children enrolled. I work for our local school district and out of my elementary children, there is only one and he is in the 5th grade.

I really think it has a lot to do with where you live - when he was born, I was living in NY, that’s where I grew up and it wasn’t one you saw very often, but as I have migrated south over the past 4 years, I have come across more and more of them - I think that biblical names in general are more popular in the south.
