Caleigh?

I really like the name [name_f]Caleigh[/name_f], but I’m curious as to how it’s typically pronounced.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce [name_f]Caleigh[/name_f] as “kay-lee (variation of [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f])” or “cal-lee (variation of [name_f]Callie[/name_f])”?

Thanks!

I think it really could be both. I read it as [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], but then went [name_f]Callie[/name_f]? almost immediately afterwards.

I have no idea. This one always stumps me. I would literally have no clue how to say this if it was written in front of me. I’d probably go [name_f]Callie[/name_f] and then [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] immediately after. If you want to use a similar spelling, I’d use [name_f]Calleigh[/name_f] for [name_f]Callie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cayleigh[/name_f] for [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]. My favorite spellings for the two names could be [name_u]Cali[/name_u] and [name_f]Kaylie[/name_f] though.

Tough one! I had a classmate named [name_f]Kaleigh[/name_f] who pronounces it as kay-lee. But with this C spelling, it kind of makes me want to go with cal-lee.

Well on first sight I thought it was supposed to be [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], but then I wondered if it was supposed to be [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it. I’d just be sitting there wondering why her parents didn’t spell it [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f] so we would know what to say, and then get anxiety hoping I wouldn’t have to guess and say the name first without hearing it, lol.

It appears, from the NB entry in their database, that [name_f]Caleigh[/name_f] really could go either way and be [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f].

[name_f]Caleigh[/name_f] stumps me. A girl went to my high school with this name, she pronounced it “[name_m]Kal[/name_m]-ee.”

I know 2 girls name [name_f]Kali[/name_f]. One was “[name_u]Kay[/name_u]-lee” the other was “[name_m]Kal[/name_m]-ee.”

I kind of like [name_f]Caleigh[/name_f] more than [name_f]Callie[/name_f] too. Definitely prefer both to [name_u]Cali[/name_u].

My first thought was Kah-lee, with a long ah sound like in car, and then ‘oh wait, maybe it’s [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-lee’, but I’m more used to that with a K. I didn’t think of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] (short a, like cat) somehow. Which one are you going for?

I would think [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. I agree with pp that if you want similar spelling, [name_f]Calleigh[/name_f] for [name_f]Callie[/name_f] (even though I feel like the -eigh is un-necessary) and [name_f]Cayleigh[/name_f] for [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f].

My first thought was cal-lee.

I thought Cah-lee, kay-lee didn’t even come to mind with this spelling

Thanks everyone, I thought it was pronounced like [name_f]Callie[/name_f] at first, and S/O thought it was like [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], so that’s what made me ask. I think the suggestion of [name_f]Calleigh[/name_f] and [name_f]Cayleigh[/name_f] instead might be much easier too - LOL

thank you again!

I know one who pronounces it [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]. Given the single l this seems logical to me. I am not usually fond of alternate spellings but I like this one.

Best to avoid that spelling. Choose [name_f]Callie[/name_f] or [name_f]Caylee[/name_f].

My first thought was Cah-lee. I have also seen the spelling [name_u]Cali[/name_u].
