Calling all one-syllable middles!

I’m looking for a one-syllable middle to (finally!) complete my [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] combo. So far [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is set. Any ideas? I like the idea of something quirkier and unexpected, but I’m open to anything that sounds good. I have several options I’m tossing around, but I can’t seem to tell if I really like them or not. WDYT of these–are they any good?

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Grier[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

I know there’s a lot, but I can’t seem to narrow them down at all (or tell if I love any enough to keep them!). I’ve bolded the combos with family names. [name_f]Grier[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] also have oodles of significance, just not in honor of family. If you don’t like any, or feel like just suggesting, I would love any one-syllable name that you think would pair well with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I love the idea of having a double barrel I could use with [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]–like [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u], etc. Any ideas?

Thanks, ladies!

I’m really liking [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f]. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] work with practically everything. I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] too, but then you have back to back flower names. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is workin for me too.

The one I like least is [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] – too rhymey and cutesy for me.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is cute as a button! And I really like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. I want to like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] as I love [name_f]Joy[/name_f], but it sounds like poppyjoy = opium happiness. Hmmm… And [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is precious. No it’s [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] the flower not the seed!

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] - [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] dawn! A poppy field at sunrise! Yay!
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] - a poppy faery, yes, please!!
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] - utter cuteness and joy, and I think it’s unexpected!
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Lune[/name_f] - poppies and the moon. It would still be a Frenchie name for your friend.

I really like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. They are both so spunky to me!

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!

They’re all beautiful but my favourites are [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f]!

I was going to suggest [name_f]Eve[/name_f] when I saw the title since its my favourite one syllable middle, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] doesn’t sound as good as any you currently have though!

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is my favorite. [name_m]Just[/name_m] the right mix of quirky and unexpected.

I adore [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] claire is also cute. I also really like the suggestion of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Bliss[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Muse[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Shay[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] (too much plant?)
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Gail[/name_f]

Thanks, everyone! I’m still not sure about these.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Grier[/name_f] in particular? Is [name_f]Grier[/name_f] too different from [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]? I like that [name_f]Grier[/name_f] means “watcher”, especially because of a Bible verse in [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] 25. While unisex, [name_f]Grier[/name_f] (to me, anyway!) has that same British feel as [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], so it sort of feels like it ties it all together, but at the same time, I feel like they’re just too different.

I’m eliminating [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], and [name_f]Wren[/name_f], but I’m adding [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] to the list. Thoughts on these?

My favorites are
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] - so cute with a pinch of sass from [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] - I adore how energetic [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is, and it rounds out the combo nicely
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] - very sweet and bubbly, just makes me want to smile!

Also love suggestion of [name_u]Lane[/name_u], it’s so cute!

I would like to suggest:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] - very sweet, but also a little quirky
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] - [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is a little more sass than quirk, but I think it still works
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] - I think [name_u]Sage[/name_u] fits quirky, but may be a little naturey with poppy
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] - perfect! Quirky and unexpected. Flows wonderfully too.

These were the ones I liked the best–
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

Can I suggest–
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]

@gailk (and @sarahdm, as well, I suppose!) - I had considered [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], and I do quite like it, but I wasn’t sure, as [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [something], and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are all on my list already. I figured it might be [name_f]Evie[/name_f] overload, particularly because it’s not even a family name! I do like it a lot, though. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], I also quite like [name_u]Rae[/name_u] as a middle, but it has no significance, and it seems significantly more cowgirlish than [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].

Another wee question–it’d be nice if I could eliminate one of the Roo names–which of the two do you all prefer? [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]?

Does [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] appeal to you at all?

I don’t know. haha. I’m trying to decide, because I’ve never been a [name_f]Faye[/name_f] person at all, but I do like it’s meaning, and the idea of having a poppy faerie is too cute. I had thought about it before I posted, but it takes a lot for me to get behind [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. We’ll see. I like the idea of it, but I’m not sure I like the actual combo as much as I like some of the others.

[name_u]Ash[/name_u], I really love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] for you. I could just see you calling her [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - so cute!

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] Greir a lot! I think Greir is just different enough from [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] to make it surprising but not so different you wonder “what the?” I love surprising middle names
I also really like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and Emmeling [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I can’t decide between them! They are probably my favorites on your list.
Other one syllable names that might work
[name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Meg[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f], Emmeline [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Jewel[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jewel[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Jill[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jill[/name_f]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jewel[/name_f] is probably my favorite of these, the nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] [name_f]Jewel[/name_f] is just too cute!

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] better…you could still call her [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]!

@emsky - I had totally forgotten about the double-barrel with [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u]! [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] was the last [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] combo I’d had before it dropped off my list and re-emerged; I had loved the idea of [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] Roo as a nn. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]/[name_u]Rue[/name_u] just gained major brownie points! I think you’re right. I was leaning toward [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] myself, of the two, but I still can’t seem to just pick one.

@kyemsma - that was originally my first thought for a combo! But [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], in part, is for my dad (who I call Papi, and my children will call [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]), and also my brother, both of who were in the the USAF. Since poppies seem to be a symbol of veterans, for Veterans’ [name_u]Day[/name_u] (Remembrance [name_u]Day[/name_u] in [name_f]England[/name_f]), I was claiming [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] for them both, but especially for my dad, since he goes/will go by [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. My dad’s name is [name_m]John[/name_m]–and if I used [name_f]Jane[/name_f], it would be for him and my brother, too–is [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] overload? I really like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but I’m just worried it’s honoring overload…

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Lil[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Liv[/name_f]

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] is so cute!
