One rabbit trail leads to another! I’m on the search for names that have a long-U/OO sound. We already have on the list (or did have and eliminated):
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
Zuzia
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]/[name_f]Una[/name_f] (this was too “[name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, The Ood” for my husband)
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (I don’t like the “loose” sound in any of the [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- names)
Others that come to mind:
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
Azula
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Juno[/name_f]/[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
What other gems should I consider? Thank you for your ideas!
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (I don’t like the “loose” sound in any of the [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- names) - [name_f]Luz[/name_f] either /z/ or Spanish /th/ but [name_f]Luz[/name_f] I knew hated the latter.so
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] Luchia or a /k/ spelling.
Others that come to mind:
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f] like a z in this [name_f]Urzula[/name_f] or Ulyssa
Azula -yes
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] – [name_f]Luisa[/name_f]?
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]- love this with [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] nname
[name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Juno[/name_f]/[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] -all good
and
[name_f]Beulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Tulip[/name_f]
[name_f]Toula[/name_f]
Koula (both Greek names) so not suitable perhaps sorry.
All Eu names. Eugénie /oo-gen -ee/ or /oo jean ee/ without acute
[name_u]Doone[/name_u]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
Lupa
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]-[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Drusila[/name_f]?
Ceraluen
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]-[name_u]July[/name_u]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
[name_f]Suri[/name_f]
[name_u]Zuri[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
Most have already been suggested, but I would say:
[name_f]Euphemia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]/[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]/[name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] (which I think would fit nicely with your other children’s names, if I’m honest!)
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Jubilee[/name_f]
@bailibsmum - [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]! I never considered that. We’ve had a few [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]-related names on the list before and it never occurred to me that they [name_f]DO[/name_f] have that “oo” sound. Interesting thought!
@morganalefaye - Oh, nice on the international options! Lumi is totally adorable. I also enjoy [name_f]Jerusha[/name_f], [name_f]Keturah[/name_f], Nimue, [name_f]Nuala[/name_f], and [name_f]Ulla[/name_f]. And yes, I agree, [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is nice but [name_f]Constance[/name_f] beats that one easily.
@ornella - Oh, I had [name_u]Cerulean[/name_u] on my boys list once-upon-a-time. Good call!
@ashleyjuliette - I’m not sure I’ve ever heard [name_f]Larue[/name_f] before. Too bad NB doesn’t have any info on it. Thanks for the ideas.
@lawsonhaley - I know, I’ve thought that [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] “fits” the group. It might have a chance if it weren’t for the character in “The [name_f]Music[/name_f] [name_m]Man[/name_m],” the over-the top mayor’s wife, [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] Mackecknie Shinn. My husband has also vetoed [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] because of that show, and I can only barely sneak [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] past him. I can’t really blame him, he’s been in two different productions of the show, but it IS a disappointment when nice names get ruined.
[name_f]Larue[/name_f] is an old name, at least I assume, since I first saw it near rank # 900 in an old Social Security name list for the usa. I had never heard it before. It is quite quirky and I think it means to have red or curly hair but I am not sure.
I also forgot the color name [name_u]Cerulean[/name_u]. (seh-[name_u]RUE[/name_u]-lee-inn)
Thank you all for adding more great ideas here. [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is brilliant thinking! Kualana is beautiful, but I don’t think any of my Irish-English-Norwegian children could pull it off. [name_f]Sookie[/name_f]/[name_f]Suki[/name_f] so cute - right there with Zuzia and Zuza. I love all the exotic variations of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], but my husband thinks they are all weird.
