Calliope nicknames & sibling ideas. Currently pregnant

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I’m currently pregnant and would like some of your thoughts. We aren’t telling anyone potential baby names until baby is here and we don’t know the gender yet as we are waiting for birth to find out so can’t really discuss this with friends and family.

For a girl, we’ve decided on [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] (with the kah-lye-oh-pee pronunciation). [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nickname is [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] but my Husband thinks it’s too much of a stretch so he’s rooting for Loppy/Loppie (like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] but with an “L”) which I think looks like the word “loopy”. I strongly dislike [name_f]Callie[/name_f] but we have considered [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] (like [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] and Stitch) as other possibilities.

What are your thoughts on these nicknames?
Is [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] too much of a stretch with the kah-lye-oh-pee pronunciation? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer Loppy/Loppie? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have another nickname you like more than these?

Also, if you were to suggest sibling names for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], what would be on your list for a boy or girl? We currently don’t have a boys name chosen for if this baby is a boy but I also don’t know what names I’d pick for a future sister to [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] as it’s the only name on our girls list. We like uncommon and longer sounding names with three syllables or more and the potential for nicknames. I’m open to all suggestions so would love to hear your ideas.

Thanks in advance!

I’d use [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], and [name_f]Io[/name_f] also work!

For sisters I like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f], [name_f]Acadia[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f].

Interesting, the initial suggestion of [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] as a nickname was sort of as a joke since he said [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] was too much of a stretch but I think [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] is no different in how I came to suggest it. He actually did quite like [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] as a nickname though.

I hadn’t thought of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] has an association for both of us. I do really like [name_f]Lo[/name_f] but it’s my brother’s ex’s name so that’s definitely off the table as an option for the next few years at least.

Ooh! I actually really like [name_f]Acadia[/name_f] and haven’t come across that yet. [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is definitely pretty sounding too. Unfortunately [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is the only name I can think of that I really really dislike as its sounds like “I feel ya” in my country’s accent since people are lazy with pronunciations.

Really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Did you have any boys names that may go with [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]? If this baby is a boy, we would like to keep [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] for a future daughter but we just can’t find a boy name we like.

I like LILO and [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. The only other nickname I can think of is [name_u]Allie[/name_u], or stretching maybe [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Coco[/name_u] or [name_f]Lola[/name_f]?

As for sibling names I’d suggest…
Sisters:
[name_f]Acantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]

Brothers:
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_m]Brando[/name_m]
[name_u]Coriander[/name_u]

Calla, Lyo (play on [name_m]Leo[/name_m] that reflects your “lye” pronunciation), [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], [name_f]Kali[/name_f] or [name_u]Karli[/name_u]/Carli (“kah” “lye”)

Calliope nicknames hmm.

[name_u]Po[/name_u]
[name_m]Al[/name_m]
Calo (like [name_u]Caro[/name_u], thought of [name_u]Caro[/name_u] but might be a bit of a stretch)

I do like Loppie I think it’s adorable. And even though it bears a resemblance to loopy I wouldn’t read it as such.

Opie (i love. But there is the opioid connection)

I think [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] isn’t too big of a stretch. But I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Lilo[/name_f].

One of my best friends has a daughter called [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] nn [name_u]Coco[/name_u] so can’t do [name_u]Coco[/name_u]. Although, I have seen [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] when doing some searching so can see a bit of a connection between [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_u]Coco[/name_u]. I quite like [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f], especially with the meaning and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a name I suggested before Husband fell in love with [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is on our potential list for a boy but we’ve not settled on anything yet so I’m pleased to see someone suggest it as a sibling name!

@sarahjane1
The only nicknames I had considered from your list were [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] so thank you for your suggestions. A few new ones to consider and share with Husband.

@madohleen
I too had thought of the opioid connection when Husband decided to suggest Ope/Opie. He’s since moved on to Loppy/Loppie which he prefers with the Loppy spelling which does look more like “loopy” to me. Lippy is a new one, although I had a teacher by this name in high school so maybe not. Thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions!

@Strawberry.Bunny
Thanks for your thoughts on [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilo[/name_f]. I have started to warm towards [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] more over the last few days and Husband definitely likes it more than [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] due to the connection with [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] and Stitch. I do quite like [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] as a sibling suggestion for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and will have to keep that on a list for a future daughter. [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] is a potential middle name (or middle name inspiration) for a second son as it’s a family name. While [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is pretty, [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] will have a similar name as a middle name so I feel that it would be too matchy to use for an additional child.

@katkabet
For [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], that’s how I came to suggest it as a nickname. I actually hadn’t thought of the bunnies as a connection to Loppie. That’s my concern with [name_f]Calla[/name_f], I feel that if introduced as [name_f]Calla[/name_f], people would assume its her full name and try to nickname it to [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. I like your suggestions of [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister has claimed [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] so as much as I like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], I feel it’s off the table. I actually had suggested [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] to my Husband for a boy’s name but he wasn’t keen on any of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and suggestions!

I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Winslow[/name_u], I quite like it but not sure what nickname I’d use for it. Although, it does make me think of a show my siblings would watch called Catdog where there was some sort of animal character with that name (I could be wrong with that though).

[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is so sweet and lovely! I really love it.

As for nicknames, I think the “lye” sound in the kah-lye-oh-pee pronunciation makes [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] a sensible choice and not too much of a stretch. I think the spelling is what throws it off. Maybe your husband would like the [name_f]Lila[/name_f] spelling better?

I also love [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] but they actually feel like more of a stretch to me than [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] has the “lee” rather than “lye” sound and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] has more of a “cal” than a “kah” sound, but they could still work if you like them. I’m not a huge fan of Loppy/Loppie. It does look a bit like loopy and just doesn’t sound like a name - kinda reminds me of floppy.

A nickname I’ve seen mentioned for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] before is [name_f]Lolly[/name_f]/Lollie, which I think is really cute. It blends well with more popular names like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and feels like a fresh take on the [name_u]Holly[/name_u]/Molly sound. It also to me strikes a balance between [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and Loppy, having the strong L sounds you like combined with the fun short o sound that makes Loppy appealing. So my vote would be first for [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f].

I hope all this helped! I’m sure whatever you choose will feel perfect and again, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful choice like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. I’ll edit to add sibling name ideas as I find some.

I think [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] is too much of a stretch. Loppy is adorable though! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nn is [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]/Poppi which is the traditional Greek nickname for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f].

I do think [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] works too.

I love [name_f]Clio[/name_f]/ [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] as a nn! I know a couple of people have already suggested it but [name_f]Io[/name_f] (Eye-o or Ee-o) is a great option, I think you misread it as [name_f]Lo[/name_f]!

Yeah i agree i prefer the Loppie spelling. Def give sit more difference from Loopy

Hi there.

I like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]! It’s very cool & exotic but sweet & friendly. I think that [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a nice nn idea, but if you strongly dislike [name_f]Callie[/name_f]…I don’t know. I feel like you’re bound to get [name_f]Callie[/name_f] once in a while if you call her [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to me. I think that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] looks better though. There isn’t an ‘h’ in [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], & I also just think that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] looks sleeker. Loppy/Loppie is not my style. It does look like loopy. I like the idea of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. Could you even do [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]?

For a sister for [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], I would think something like…

Aurelia

Azalea

Bellatrix

Beatrix

Daphne

Indigo

Juno

Juniper

Magnolia

Tallula

And a brother, how about…

Aurelius

Crispin

Dashiell

Maximus

Tristan

Hope this helps.

Lilo is such a cute nn! Such a great movie about family too :relaxed:

My favorite is [name_f]Clio[/name_f]!

I would just use [name_f]Lila[/name_f](h) lol. I don’t find it to be a stretch at all? [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilo[/name_f] are okay, but I don’t think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is any more of a stretch than [name_f]Lilo[/name_f].

Forgive me for saying so, but Loppy sounds a bit… ah, silly? to me? lol. I would just go for [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], honestly. It does bring to mind “loopy” and even “flop” lol.

I think these would be nice as nns, too:

Io (eye-oh)
[name_f]Pippi[/name_f]
Cappy
[name_u]Ali[/name_u]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_u]Coco[/name_u]

And for what it’s worth, I’m not a fan of it for a boy. I’m blanking on suggestions for a sibling, but if I think of something, I’ll come back. :joy:
