Calypso?

What are your thoughts on [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]? It’s very appealing to me. I like the feel and the sound. It’s strong and pretty and unique. It’s Greek and means “she who hides,” by the way.

Good or bad?

I love the name [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] just as I love most Greek names. However, in the naming world today, you might want to consider [name_f]Callista[/name_f] or [name_f]Calina[/name_f] as an alternative. [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] is SO much prettier and more meaningful, though.

I’m finding it so funny that I saw this post…since I just put on Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

Anyway, I find the name a little goddess heavy myself. But its not bad.

I love [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]!! I considered it fir my daughter and would still if I had another daughter! [name_f]My[/name_f] only qualm is they it’s not the most Versatile of names… It would take a certain personality to pull it off!

I find it a bit awkward for actual use, but I guess it is usable. I think it is one of those names that you have to have the personality to wear it or it seems too overpowering.

[name_u]Calypso[/name_u] feels masculine to me! I prefer [name_f]Calista[/name_f].

I think it is beautiful. But, I struggle because even though each new child will make their own destiny, it is hard to imagine the CEO of a company in the US, or a president, named [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]. I dig the mythology link though, and if it feels right to you I think you should use it! I too prefer [name_f]Calista[/name_f] or [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] though.

[name_u]Calypso[/name_u] is beautiful, and I love those Greek girl names that end in -o. [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] would never make my list, however, because even though I know the origin my main association is with the Caribbean music. So, it wouldn’t have the intended vibe for me. But I’d love to meet a [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]!

I think it’s beautiful! Would love to meet someone with the name!

I completely adore [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]. Its my number one guilty pleasure. It has such a happy, lilting, sunshine sound and I love the look of it. I love its Greek origins as well as its Caribbean associations. One of my favourite novels “The Camomile Lawn” has a character called [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] too.

The only thing that puts me off using it on a daughter is that it has been used so much as a brand name for various products. Whenever I mention it to people, they always say “What? Like the ice-lolly (popsicle)/suntan lotion/drink/coffee?!” It drives me crazy!

It’s not my style so I wouldn’t use it, but I love the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f]!!

I think it’s a beautiful name, I love the mythology aspect. I personally wouldn’t consider it because it reminds me of the Callipo ice creams we used to devour as kids, I don’t know if this is a [name_m]German[/name_m] thing though. (Anyway they were popsicles that came in paper tubes that you pressed up - very penis-y.

I love [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]! If I ever have a baby girl in the summer (this name reminds me of summer), I would definitely consider this name.

I love calypso with the nickname [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. I don’t know if I would use it on my baby girl only because there are other names I enjoy saying more.

I love [name_u]Calypso[/name_u], and the myth about her. I would be so happy to meet one.

It’s one of my guilty pleasures and I’ve been using it as a pseudonym for years. It was my fan fiction pen name and part of my username on Goodreads. It’s really pretty and I wish I was brave enough to use it! And if it helps I have no clue what this ice cream association is (I’m a Midwestern American).

I can’t get into it, maybe it’s because I absolutely hated [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] in The Odyssey, it also reminds me of Calippo iceblocks - for some reason!
