Camellia

New flower name that I’ve been thinking about. :wink:

[name]Do[/name] you pronounce it ka-MEEL-ee-yuh?

Thanks :smiley:

[name]Hi[/name]! :slight_smile:
i think it’s a very lovely name! I like [name]Camilla[/name] a lot, and actually think [name]Camellia[/name] is even nicer! [name]Amelia[/name] is another similar name, also very pretty! Yes I pr. it that way.

I’d pronounce it that way too. Beautiful flower! Beautiful name! Lots of potential nicknames too: [name]Cam[/name], [name]Mell[/name], [name]Melly[/name], [name]Cally[/name], [name]Lia[/name]…

This is my mother’s name. She is 72. It is really peculiar to see her name popping up on message boards and to see it being discussed as an up and coming possibility. It is pronounced like [name]Amelia[/name] only with a “C”. I pronounce it with 3 syllables though. I suppose you could pronounce it with 4.

By the way, [name]Camellia[/name] flowers are quite lovely. They bloom in winter.

This is actually one of my fave names and has been on my short list too - the one thing I worry about is the “Camel” at the front, but am I just being too worry-wart about it?

mom2seven, does your mother like her name? [name]Do[/name] you think it ages well?

I love [name]Camellia[/name]. Somehow it seems a lot different than [name]Amelia[/name] to me, much more unusual. I like all the related names too, [name]Camille[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Camila[/name], [name]Amelia[/name]. I pronounce it [name]Ca[/name]-MEEL-yuh, though.

Oh, I also love [name]Camellia[/name]. Such a beauiful name and to me it is much more exotic sounding than [name]Amelia[/name]. I don’t know if I would ever use it myself but it is such a gorgeous name i think you should go for it if you love it! I would love to meet a little [name]Camellia[/name]. My favourite nns for this are [name]Milly[/name], [name]Cami[/name] and [name]Lia[/name].

Ooooh, why do I feel like I’m raining on the parade by saying this? No matter how I say it, it sounds like cameleon. :frowning:

I say [name]Camellia[/name] with 3 syllables, but either way, I love it! :smiley: It is light and feminine, and associated with a beautiful flower of the same name. (;

(Also, it’s eons better than [name]Camilla[/name], IMHO.)

I just read a book and there was a group of debutantes called the Camellias. I pronounced it Cah-[name]MEL[/name]-ee-ah in my head while I was reading. I think it’s a very pretty name written out. In terms of pronunciation, I THINK I like [name]MEL[/name] over MEEL. It’s just cool to see this post right after I read that book. (It was called Girls in Trucks or something like that. Pretty good book, well written!)

I love both [name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name], but for some reason when smushed into [name]Camellia[/name] it sounds like Chameleon! Sorry! Maybe if it was spelled differently, as previous posters suggested, since at first read i actually pn. it ca-mehl-ee-ah, which i think takes away the potential “Chamelion” teasing!
[name]Hope[/name] this helps!
