Camilla/Camille?

What is your general opinion on these names? They’ve been on my list interchangeably for quite some time, but I’m just not sure which I prefer. [name]Camille[/name] sounds so delicate and pretty, and is popular in [name]France[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think it would be mispronounced, though?

[name]Camilla[/name] is far more well-known, but I’m worried people’s first thoughts would be the Duchess of Cornwall, who is of course an incredibly controversial royal figure (to put it simply, almost everyone seems to dislike her) and would be very very sceptical of using it for this reason.

Which do you prefer? Also, do you think that a [name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] would end up being stuck with [name]Milly[/name] or [name]Cam[/name]/[name]Cammy[/name] as a nickname? I really do not like any of these.

Thanks! x

I don’t like [name]Camilla[/name], but I adore [name]Camille[/name]. [name]Camille[/name] is chic, stylish, classy and beautiful. When I considered it myself, I loved it for the nn [name]Milla[/name]. [name]Milly[/name] is far too trendy and cutesy to be a nn for [name]Camille[/name] imo. So I vastly prefer [name]Camille[/name] to [name]Camilla[/name]!

Since you live in Great [name]Britain[/name], [name]Camilla[/name] would automatically be connected with [name]Prince[/name] [name]Charles[/name]’ wife. It is a classic name though so that would be a shame. The Spanish spelling [name]Camila[/name] is more popular in the US due to the large Hispanic population. Personally, I prefer the French [name]Camille[/name]. I just think it’s soft and sweet without the frilliness of [name]Camilla[/name]. If you don’t like [name]Milly[/name] or [name]Cammy[/name] as nn’s, you could use [name]Mila[/name] instead.

I love both, too! I actually always thought [name]Camille[/name] was more mainstream. When I discovered [name]Camilla[/name], it quickly became my favorite but these days I lean toward [name]Camille[/name]. [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name] is actually on my top 3. I think [name]Cam/name and [name]Millie[/name] could be avoided. There’s also [name]Callie[/name], [name]Milla[/name]/[name]Mila[/name], or even just the full name. I don’t know why a [name]Camille[/name] couldn’t just be [name]Camille[/name].

Good luck!

I wouldnt worry about nn’s just tell people your child doesnt go by [name]Cami[/name] or [name]Millie[/name], I dont even see [name]Millie[/name] happening since [name]Camille[/name] doesnt make a “mill” sound. I have known American [name]Camille[/name]'s and they havent had any prn problems so I dont think it would be an issue.

I love them both! I think I prefer [name]Camilla[/name] as a FN because it comes with [name]Mila[/name] as a NN option instead of [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Cami[/name]. As a MN though I prefer [name]Camille[/name]. It just flows nicely I think in the middle spot. I am really considering [name]Camille[/name] as an MN for my own list, but it does not have as many NN options as [name]Camilla[/name]. Either would make a lovely choice though

I love [name]Camilla[/name]. It’s on my list. I have a good friend named [name]Camille[/name], but I’ve always thought [name]Camilla[/name] was an especially pretty name.

I love [name]Camilla[/name] and I like [name]Camille[/name]. I’m in the US so the [name]Royal[/name] connection is not as big of a deal. I do not think there would be pronunciation problems with [name]Camille[/name]. And I agree with everyone else, the nicknames can be avoided.

[name]Camille[/name] is my favorite because I like the sound of it better.

[name]Camille[/name] is my fav

I like [name]Camille[/name] better, easier to say maybe?! :).

I prefer [name]Camille[/name], very pretty!

I think [name]Camilla[/name] is more flexible and much easier to say Kah miller. and yes it is so British too and that is appealing.

[name]Camille[/name] definitely. Avoid the Duchess. I can’t see any pronounciation issues.

I personally like the nn’s you’ve given.

I actually prefer [name]Camilla[/name], but if the royalty connection bothers you, then definitely go with [name]Camille[/name].
