Camille or Carys??!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

We have about 8 weeks to go before our baby girl and posted recently as we just can’t decide on a name! We already have 2 kids - [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - so need a name to fit.

We’ve narrowed it down to 2…I think:

  1. [name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (basically so we can shorten to ‘[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]’ when she is little!)
  2. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Camille[/name_f] but sometimes worry about the ‘meel’ ending or should it be the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation ‘Camee’ - or is that just pretentious when we are not [name_m]French[/name_m]?! Or would it be softer as ‘[name_f]Ca[/name_f]-mill’?

[name_f]Carys[/name_f] - I love the meaning and it is very sweet but think [name_f]Camille[/name_f] sounds better with the other 2 kids’ names.

The middle names are family names so we are happy with those.

Argh - beating myself up that I can’t decide as the other 2 were pretty much instantly named!

Any opinions/ advice is appreciated,

[name_f]Sara[/name_f]

[name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is my vote. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is a lovely name, with a lovely meaning, and I think it goes very well with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. Also the flow is so much better with [name_f]Carys[/name_f]! [name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] feels tongue-awkward to me because of all the “L” sounds from [name_f]Camille[/name_f] to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] - it actually sounds like the MN is Lalise when I say it aloud. Personally, I like [name_f]Carys[/name_f] better than [name_f]Camille[/name_f] because I like the “care” sound in [name_f]Carys[/name_f] much better than I like the “meal” or “mill” sound in Camillle. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t beat yourself up, it’s perfectly normal to get stuck!

I just love [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], it is beautiful – and I agree with twinsage that it flows better than [name_f]Camille[/name_f] + I especially like it with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] ; I’m [name_m]French[/name_m] and I wouldn’t beat myself up with the “uber-Frenchness” of [name_f]Camille[/name_f] + [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (my first name !!!), but it is true that is sounds a little less nice that [name_f]Carys[/name_f] because of the direct L transition from [name_f]Camille[/name_f] to [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. Have you considered [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] ? ([name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is pretty wicked too!).
Either way, congratulations and many thoughts on the end of your pregnancy !

[name_f]Camille[/name_f] is just gorgeous with your other kids’ names! I think [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] could fit well too, if you want to avoid prn issues. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is great but I definitely prefer [name_f]Camille[/name_f] with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] Good luck!

[name_f]Camille[/name_f] is one if my favorite names!! I do think [name_f]Carys[/name_f] work well with your kids names.

If you live in an English-speaking place and don’t like the “meel” ending of [name_f]Camille[/name_f], I’d say to for sure go with [name_f]Carys[/name_f]. Trying to get people to use the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation isn’t pretentious if that’s just the pronunciation you prefer, but I do think it would be impossible. There’s also [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] if the “ca-MILL” pronunciation of [name_f]Camille[/name_f] appeals to you.

Personally I have loved [name_f]Carys[/name_f] for years, so I’m biased that way anyway! [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] sounds lovely, and I agree that it eliminates the tricky transition from [name_f]Camille[/name_f] to [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. I sort of see what you mean about [name_f]Camille[/name_f] sounding better with [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], but [name_f]Carys[/name_f] sounds great with them too, and I don’t think it’s worth using [name_f]Camille[/name_f] if you don’t really like the pronunciation you’re most likely to hear.

[name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] would be my choice. I’m so in love with the name [name_f]Carys[/name_f].

Thank you so much everyone - I think I am veering towards [name_f]Carys[/name_f] simply because of the pronunciation issues and if it’s bothering me now then that’s not a great sign! Much appreciated xx
