Can Callie stand on its own?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
So, I’ve been signed up to Nameberry for quite a while now but have never really had the opportunity to sit down properly and browse through the forums or even start posting. So, it’s now finally the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] holidays here and whilst I have a little bit of time to spare I though I would ask a question.

My husband and I really love the name [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. However, he doesn’t think that the name is able to stand completely on its own and would much rather prefer a longer name with the nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. I have battled with him many times over the fact that we have a son named Lochie who has no longer name, but he still feels the same way.

I realise there may not be many full names that have the possibility of the nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f], but do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Yes, [name_f]Callie[/name_f] can stand on its own.

[name_f]Callie[/name_f] can be a nickname for:

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f]
[name_f]Calanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_u]Calypso[/name_u]

I know an adult [name_f]Callie[/name_f], just [name_f]Callie[/name_f], in her early 30s. I always loved it and thought it felt like those sweet old-fashioned nickname-names, like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]. It’s great on its own. PP covered the most likely full names. A few other possibilities:
[name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Calandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Pascala[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Callie[/name_f] works with your existing children’s names, FWIW.

Absolutely! I have known “just” [name_f]Callie[/name_f]'s. I love the name.

I know three “just” [name_f]Callie[/name_f]'s. While I usually prefer a longer name, I think [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is just fine on it’s own!

Definitely can stand alone

I usually prefer longer names with a shorter nickname; however, I definitely think that [name_f]Callie[/name_f] can stand on its own! I am not a fan of the possible longer names with a nickname of [name_f]Callie[/name_f], and I would just choose [name_f]Callie[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Callie[/name_f] can stand on it’s own! It’s a lovely name. I also like [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] as a longer form of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Callie[/name_f] is absolutely fine on its own and fits well with your other child’s name.

I don’t even think of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] as a nickname, as I would with, say, [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]. (Which I would assume was short for [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] or [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] or something).
To me [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a perfectly full name, like other short-ish names that end with an -ee sound. (think [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] etc)

I hope this helps

Well, it sounds like your husband won’t go for it as a stand-alone form, so maybe your time is best spent choosing the longer form you like best? I like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] or [name_f]Callista[/name_f] a lot with the sibset. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] especially, are a stunning combo.

I am actually going to go against the popular opinion here and say that I do agree somewhat with your husband - [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a perpetually youthful name. She’s the friendly girl next-door who never really grows up. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with never growing-up, but if you want to give your child a name that they can use in any situation at any age, I don’t feel like [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is the one. I know a few adult just-Callies and they are very bubbly and energetic (in fact one is a fitness instructor and the other is a SAHM who sells jewelry.) I might get slammed here, but I do feel there are certain names that are so very sweet but just won’t stand the test of time ([name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]…)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
I love just [name_f]Callie[/name_f], it’s so sweet!

It could be short for:
[name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
Callyn
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]

[name_u]Love[/name_u]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] :rose:

I have known a [name_f]Callie[/name_f] who I think was just [name_f]Callie[/name_f], but I am one who usually doesn’t like nickname-y names to stand alone. If I were you, I’d probably use [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

My favorite name for [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is [name_f]Calista[/name_f]. I think that is a beautiful name!

On Greys Anatomy the [name_f]Callie[/name_f] on there is [name_f]Calliope[/name_f].

Thanks you so much for the suggestions and advice. I’ll show my husband these comments - it might make him change his mind, you never know!
I’m really loving both [name_f]Callista[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] as possible longer names. I really love [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] too, but I’m not too sure if I’m brave enough to use it!
@schickler: I totally understand where you’re coming from. We have had this disagreement with almost all of my three children’s names, particularly Lochie. ‘That’s not even a proper full name!’ - but it didn’t put us off! However, we would most likely go with a longer name just for the peace of mind of my husband, if we ever did have fourth child that is.
