I love the name [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] as well as the nicknames [name_m]Rick[/name_m], [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] and [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], I can just about tolerate [name_m]Fred[/name_m] but I hate [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I know it’s popular right now and I don’t mean to offend anyone but I really just cannot stand it. Is it inevitable that my [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] would end up being [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] or do you think using [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] would avoid it?
My nephew is named [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. My sister hated the idea of him being called [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. So before he was born and named, she decided that we would preemptively give him the nickname [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. He is 11 now, and we all call him [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], not [name_u]Drew[/name_u] or [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. I don’t think anyone would ever call him [name_u]Andy[/name_u] as he is not an [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. The same can be true for your [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. If you start calling him [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] or [name_u]Ricky[/name_u], it should stick. But with any name, he or his friends may change it.
