Can I go in a different direction after Clementine?

We are expecting #2 in early [name]November[/name]. Our 18 month old is named [name]Clementine[/name] J@ne. She was a delivery surprise, and we are not going to find out the sex again this time. With baby #1, I literally did not have a boy name picked out at the time of birth–I was leaning heavily towards [name]Bodhi[/name] at the time, though. My other girl choice last time was [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], which I think would be beautiful with [name]Clementine[/name]. I think that [name]Jemima[/name] would also work well, and [name]Rufus[/name] for a boy–these names all go together in my mind. The problem is that I seem to be attracted to more out-there, hippie nature type names this time. I still really like [name]Bodhi[/name], for both the meaning and the sound, and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Echo[/name] for a girl, and [name]Lotus[/name]. But [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Echo[/name]? [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Lotus[/name]? Hmmm. I guess my question is: can I go in the more nature-hippie-boho direction after [name]Clementine[/name] J@ne or must I stick with the [name]Jemima[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Rufus[/name] type names? Any suggestions for either type of name for boys? Thanks in advance for any help–my husband is a last minute namer, and has no interest in this conversation right now!

[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is so sweet! When I hear [name]Clementine[/name] I think vintage , puritan and a bit naturey (because of the fruit). To me it’s still a nature name, but it’s very soft and girlish, not really hipster (like some other nature names). I think mainly it doesn’t have that international/hip vibe that was recently being discussed on the “sister for [name]Bodhi[/name]” thread (definitely check that out if you already haven’t). I agree that any of the names you mentioned like [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Jemima[/name], etc would work wonderfully. [name]Echo[/name] and [name]Lotus[/name] feel much different to me. [name]Both[/name] are very hipster (which is fine if that’s what you’re going for) and exotic. But, that being said, if you really love one of them then thats the direction you should go in. You don’t HAVE to stick with any type of name. Go with what you feel is right. I think you can however still take the hippy-nature route without it sounding wrong, [name]Flora[/name] is both exotic and naturey, for example, and pairs nicely with [name]Clementine[/name].

So for boys names… [name]Bodhi[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] sound nice together though they feel very different. Though, again, if you love it, use it. Some other names that could work and fall into the categories you mentioned:

[name]Phoenix[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Foster[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Basil[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Alistair[/name]
[name]Fredrick[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]

I think you should go with a name you love. Yes, [name]Beatrix[/name] is a better match with [name]Clementine[/name] than [name]Echo[/name] but if youre loving nature names then I say use one. One option would be to used a more established nature name. That way it doesnt conflict with [name]Clementine[/name] to much. Something like:

[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] -means “[name]Star[/name]”
[name]Azalea[/name]

Im drawing a blank but I’m sure there are more that would work with [name]Clementine[/name].

[name]Hi[/name]!

Tough one! I don’t think [name]Bodhi[/name] or [name]Echo[/name] quite capture the whimsical innocence and vintage flair of [name]Clementine[/name], so I wouldn’t personally choose either for [name]Clementine[/name]'s sibling. I do love [name]Beatrix[/name], though, and [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is perfect with [name]Clementine[/name]!

As for more nature names that you might like with [name]Clementine[/name], I would definitely suggest [name]BASIL[/name] for a boy. You could pronounce it 'bay-zsull," like the herb, but I’d probably go with the saintly pronunciation of “BA-zull,” as in ‘bat.’ I think something like [name]Basil[/name] [name]Edmond[/name], [name]Basil[/name] [name]Joseph[/name], or [name]Basil[/name] [name]Henry[/name] would be nice with [name]Clementine[/name], and it has that soft, earthy, natural feel that you are attracted to! Or, try something like [name]West[/name] or [name]Finch[/name], even [name]Scout[/name] would be nice!

As for a girl, a more subtle nature name would be [name]Bryony[/name], and [name]Bryony[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is just as pretty as [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - though slightly less whimsical. [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Marigold[/name], [name]Fern[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], and [name]Lark[/name] are all good options, too!

Take care,

[name]Lemon[/name]

My [name]Clementine[/name] is 2!

We wrestled with the same question while waiting for #2 ourselves. I did think there were a few “nature-y” or just plain less “hipster” names that would still work with [name]Clementine[/name], and not sound jarring. Hubby’s taste is solid, though, and we ended up with [name]Matilda[/name]. Next will probably be [name]Beatrix[/name]!

The one name I really remember sticking in my mind was [name]Juniper[/name]. I would definitely recommend that for you. It’s sweet, offbeat, and slightly nature-y … all the same things as [name]Clementine[/name] minus the “hipster trendy” factor!

I think the criteria for naming should be 1) you love the name 2) the name will serve the child well in life

The reason to have names “match” is that you don’t know the personalities yet. For example, what if [name]Echo[/name] is a girly-girl who would rather have the name [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] is a hippie tomboy who would love to be named [name]Echo[/name]?

But really, both names are actual names that are a bit “out there.” So it wouldn’t surprise me to meet those sisters. What would be surprising is [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Ashley[/name].

Is [name]Echo[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] too crazy for you? Then she will have some options when she is older.

I think you can find a more “out there” name that fits with [name]Clementine[/name]. Especially if it is naturey. [name]Just[/name], maybe not [name]Echo[/name] or [name]Lotus[/name]…

[name]How[/name] about:

[name]Acadia[/name]
[name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Calypso[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Fern[/name]
[name]Harmonia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Petal[/name]
[name]Petunia[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Tansy[/name]
[name]Tulip[/name]
[name]Veda[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Xanthe[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]

Wow–thank you all SO much for your thoughtful responses! I did see some other names that I had thought about: [name]Jasper[/name] (husband loved this one last time around), [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Fern[/name], and [name]Zinnia[/name]. This is adding some interesting new selections to the list–good thing I have until [name]November[/name] to decide. I would love to hear more boy and girl suggestions if anyone has them.

I love the suggestions of [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Zinnia[/name]. I think they both make [name]Clementine[/name] seem more of that genre - it makes it seem that [name]Clementine[/name] could either go with a [name]Beatrix[/name]-type or a [name]Juniper[/name]-type if you know what I mean. I don’t see that [name]Echo[/name] (or similar) has the same impact on [name]Clementine[/name]. [name]Jasper[/name], works too, imo. I think it could definitely work!

I think [name]Bodhi[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] sound great together, they are both off beat, quirky cool. I think [name]Saffron[/name] and [name]Sage[/name] sound great with [name]Clementine[/name] too.
other ideas-
[name]India[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Verbena[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Posey[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Bodhi[/name]!!!

[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Bodhi[/name] would go so well together, especially if you have [name]Bodhi[/name] a classic mn to pair with [name]Jane[/name].

[name]Bodhi[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Bodhi[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Bodhi[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]

For a girl, [name]Echo[/name] is darling. What about Evantha, [name]Sierra[/name], [name]Eden[/name], [name]Charisma[/name], [name]Angel[/name], [name]Winter[/name]… Congrats!

Is [name]Echo[/name] for a girl? i would use [name]Jericho[/name] nn echo for a boy. [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Saffron[/name] as well.

I think a few month names would work and have a slightly naturey feel like [name]April[/name], [name]May[/name] (or [name]Maisie[/name]/[name]Meave[/name]) or [name]June[/name] ([name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name]/[name]Juni[/name]).
I think [name]Juniper[/name] is a good choice as it has a nature feel but not a really obvious one (and offers some cute nicknames).

Sorry for any repeats.
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]/[name]Rosamund[/name]/[name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Cerise[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]

[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]

My husband’s name is [name]James[/name], so that is a real possibility! The first time around, I was thinking [name]Bodhi[/name] [name]Cosmo[/name] or [name]Bodhi[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]…both a little more “out there”.

I love the name [name]Clementine[/name]. Personally, I think [name]Beatrix[/name] is the perfect complimentary name! That being said, only use it if you love it!

I think [name]Viola[/name] would pair suberbly with [name]Clementine[/name], too… and it has nature reference.

For boys, I think [name]Dashiell[/name] ([name]Dash[/name]) or [name]Phineas[/name] ([name]Finn[/name]) would be great, but I also love [name]Rufus[/name].

 [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Clementine[/name] is a high impact name. I am sure that people do not forget her name, therefore you need to pick a name with similar oomf for the next child.

[name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] work very well together but I would make the middle name more out there eg [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Leonora[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Fern[/name].

I would prefer to see a spunky vintage name with a naturey/vintage mn.

[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Fern[/name] now that’s nice!

i like [name]Bodhi[/name], but [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] sound perfect together.

I don’t know because of it being a British name (where boys are typically given more classic names and girls more unique choices) but a classic or vintage style boy’s name just “fits” better to me. like:

[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Laszlo[/name] (even though this is unusual they work for me)
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Freddie[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name] this is my favorite one i think

But I think more unusual girl’s names would also fit with [name]Clementine[/name] like [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Talullah[/name], or [name]Calliope[/name] (if you’re cool with the same letter, but i see both of them as being cutting edge and cool.)

I totally agree–I’m actually getting excited about [name]Jasper[/name]. As much as I really like [name]Bodhi[/name] and appreciate that so many people on here said it went well with [name]Clementine[/name], I’m still having trouble with it. In my mind, it still doesn’t go…But [name]Jasper[/name] does. [name]Love[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name] with [name]Clementine[/name], too! Thanks again for all the input! I feel like there are SO many great girl options. I can’t believe I just don’t [name]LOVE[/name] any boy names. [name]How[/name] can I have this problem!?

I love [name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name].
My other faves are -
[name]Finn[/name] & [name]Scarlette[/name]
[name]Joy[/name] & [name]Kieth[/name]
[name]Emmaline[/name] & [name]Kent[/name]
