Can I please get quick thought on Leah?

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] ??

[name]Leah[/name]:
Classic, or dated?
Does the meaning bother you?

Thanks so much!!

I think [name]Leah[/name] is a beautiful, underused classic [name]IMO[/name], and I wish I heard it more often!

[name]Leah[/name] is definitely a classic, and not dated at all. And the meaning does not bother me. [name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] is very pretty! Also:

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]

[name]Leah[/name] is definitely one of my all time favorite names. I think it’s a gorgeous classic, but definitely not dated as it’s still used quite frequently today [name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] isn’t perfect to me (it kind of flows into one word), but I’m never one to worry about name flow anyways. [name]Both[/name] names are stunning.

The meaning does not bother me.

leah is pretty and classic…if not a little bit boring…I dont like [name]Evangeline[/name] it just seems like it is trying too hard

I like [name]Leah[/name], a lot. [name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] works, but it’s got some flow and stylistic issues.

I like the pp’s suggestion of [name]Leah[/name] [name]Josephine[/name].

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] is lovely.

Not wanting to repeat [name]Grace[/name]… if at all possible (I do [name]LOVE[/name] it, but we have a daughter with [name]Grace[/name] as a second middle name). Would love to find something with an E for the middle, as the initials would spell “[name]Lee[/name]” which is a Family name on my side… [name]Emma[/name] is out (have a daughter named [name]Emma[/name]), and other than [name]Evangeline[/name] I am at a block… Thoughts???

I think I like [name]Leah[/name] a bit more than [name]Lucy[/name]…but still undecided…if baby is a boy he will be [name]Luke[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]

[name]Just[/name] thought of [name]Leah[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name], but not sure the repeating L’s sound good together…

My eleven-year-old cousin is named [name]Leah[/name]. It’s a lovely name that I don’t hear enough.

I wouldn’t use [name]Lea[/name]h Eleanor though… I do really like [name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name].

Yes, I do love the sound of [name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]!

I adore [name]Leah[/name]! The meaning does bother me though. I don’t know if I could use it because of the meaning.

It’s definitely an understated classic, not dated at all-- especially, for a first name-- And when you think about it, there are much worse meanings than “weary.”

However, I’m not the biggest fan of [name]Evangeline[/name]. It’s too dramatic for the gentle [name]Leah[/name] and the two names kind of run together when said aloud.

I like the previous suggestion of [name]Leah[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Leah[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] is darling too!

If paired with [name]Caroline[/name], I think [name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is very pretty. I still like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] though

haha. [name]Leah[/name] is nice. I don’t think it’s dated, but it is a bit boring, albeit very sweet. I like that it’s a Bible name. And I sort of wonder which was the better of the two sisters–[name]Leah[/name] didn’t connive to be [name]Jacob[/name]'s husband, that was [name]Laban[/name], and she wasn’t the one who stole her dad’s idols and then lied about it while she hid it (although maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing that [name]Rachel[/name] did that!). I wish the Bible had more of an insight into [name]Rachel[/name] and [name]Leah[/name], because that must have been one fascinating trio!

In regards to the name, though–a while back, I really wanted to give my sister ([name]Natalie[/name]) a nn, so I opted for [name]Lea/name/[name]Lia[/name]. She didn’t mind it, actually liked it, and then, after I started calling her [name]Tallie[/name] (another delightful [name]Natalie[/name] nn I found!), we were reading the story of [name]Rachel[/name] and [name]Leah[/name] for family worship, and she found out the meaning, and she’s like, “You can’t call me [name]Leah[/name] anymore!” haha. So maybe a kid wouldn’t love it so much, but it is a nice name with a nice Bible story to go with it.

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] is really pretty. I always liked the idea of [name]Leah[/name] [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Leah[/name] [name]Rachel[/name], or [name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]…

[name]Leah[/name] is a classic, I love it. [name]Evangeline[/name] is stunning!

I figure you should get some feedback from a person actually named [name]Leah[/name]. It is a perfectly lovely name that I’ve never felt quite right for me. I’ve always longed for a more formal name like [name]Catherine[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name]. Of course, giving a more substantial middle name would have solved that problem (mine is [name]Kaye[/name]). But that does not take anything away from the sweet, darling [name]Leah[/name]. The meaning mattered very little to me, except when I realized my mother and grandmother’s names meant “[name]Princess[/name]” and “Lady”. I felt a little short-handed. A different meaning for [name]Leah[/name] is “cow”. I know. But I have embraced it and my collection of nearly 100 cows has spread all over my kitchen.

Also, I think the “weary” meaning has also meant “delicate”. I think it had to do with the biblical story. [name]Leah[/name]'s sister [name]Rachel[/name] was betrothed to the kind and respectful [name]Jacob[/name]. But [name]Leah[/name] was betrothed to his brother, the brutish [name]Esau[/name]. [name]Leah[/name] would often cry at her dismal future, making her weary and her eyes, delicate. But God was there for her. She eventually married [name]Jacob[/name]. When [name]Jacob[/name] didn’t love her as much as [name]Rachel[/name], God heard her cries again, and opened her womb. She had seven of [name]Jacob[/name]'s children and is the mother of half of the Twelve Tribes if [name]Israel[/name]. She is thought to be buried in the Cave of Patriarchs, along with [name]Jacob[/name] and other biblical couples, [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Sarah[/name], and [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Rebekah[/name] ([name]Rachel[/name] is buried elsewhere).

Pronunciation and spelling used to be an issue, but I think since more people are using it than when I was young, it isn’t really a problem anymore.

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is stunning.

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] is definitely pretty.

Here are other options I love:

  • [name]Leah[/name] Elyana
  • [name]Leah[/name] [name]Emblyn[/name]

Also if you like the sound of [name]Leah[/name] but not the meaning try these:

  • [name]Aleah[/name] means “high exalted” and is Hebrew.
  • [name]Leya[/name] means “lion” and is Hebrew.
  • [name]Leida[/name] means “loved by the people” and is Russian.
  • [name]Leesa[/name] means “my god is a vow” and is Hebrew.
  • [name]Leala[/name] means “loyal one” and is French.

Good luck.
[name]Love[/name] & Blessings! xo

[name]Just[/name] another insight to the biblical [name]Leah[/name] -

While her story seems more passive than her sister [name]Rachel[/name]'s, a few very notable things often go unnoticed about her…

  • She is the matriarch (since she is the mother of 6 of the tribes)of the Jewish people’s: Firstborns, Warriors, Priests, Kings, Businessmen, and Bible Studiers.
  • She is noted as being the first person to formally express gratitude to G-d (this was upon the birth of her 4th son, thanking G-d that she was blessed above and beyond with more children than she had expected.)

That being said, one of my daughters is a [name]Leah[/name] I’m a big fan!

I don’t think the meaning is bad at all. Weary is a negative word, but in the case of the name [name]Leah[/name] it has a wonderful story behind it so I like the meaning. My step-mother’s name is [name]Leah[/name] and she is the sweetest woman I know! She is very family oriented and loves [name]Christmas[/name]. I believe people do live up to their names. I’ve never asked my step-mom if she likes her name, but I’m sure she has no complaints. If she hated her name I’m sure I would’ve heard about it by now haha.
