I’m currently loving the name [name]Rosalind[/name] for my baby girl due in [name]November[/name]. We’d call her [name]Rosie[/name] almost all the time, but I want her to have a formal name to fall back on and I like that [name]Rosalind[/name] is gorgeous itself, but also offers nns [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Lindy[/name] and others. But my problem is that I love the pronunciation [name]Rose[/name]-a-lind not Rahz-a-lind. Is it ok to use the [name]Rose[/name] pronunciation or will people think that I’m saying my daughters name wrong?
That’s actually how I prn it when I see it. I have to remind myself it might be the rahz-a-[name]Lind[/name] prn, but my first instinct is the rose-ah-[name]Lind[/name] prn. [name]Hope[/name] that makes you feel better.
I am an English teacher and associate the name with [name]Romeo[/name]'s first love interest in R&J, as well as the heroine in As You Like It, where it’s pronounced Rahz-a-lind. I’ve never heard it pronounced as “[name]Rose[/name]-a-lind,” so I would probably think you were pronouncing it incorrectly… but maybe I just don’t know that it has two pronunciations? I looked it up in two name dictionaries and both list only the RAH-zə-lind pronunciation.
I think you could name her [name]Rosalind[/name] (Rahz-a-lind) and still call her [name]Rosie[/name].
I say you can pronounce the name however you want. I prefer [name]Rose[/name] to [name]Roz[/name]. My daughter’s name is [name]Delaney[/name]. We pronounce it dee-lane-ee, not duh-lane-ee which is the “correct” way.
