Can I use Eli as a nickname for Elliott

We are naming our son (due in early [name_u]December[/name_u]) [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I have to admit I’m still wishy washy on names some days. When we chose [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] I was really happy about it. But I have had a few days where I second guess.

I’m wondering if I can use [name_u]Eli[/name_u] as a nickname? The names make different sounds though. [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is a long E and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is a short E, so does it really work?

I feel like I would have extra confidence in our choice if we could use [name_u]Eli[/name_u] because I really like it. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband vetoed [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and we know too many Elijahs.

Elliott has been decided on and we have had things personalized already and I love the combo as a whole, [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]. But I guess Im just strugglong with nicknames. I thought I could use [name_u]Lee[/name_u] maybe ([name_u]Leigh[/name_u] is my SIL and I thought it would be a sweet tribute but it might just be too confusing). But also [name_u]Lee[/name_u] doesn’t seem super intuitive from [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I like nicknames that are just really instinctive but I feel like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is obviously too girlie!

I love [name_u]Eli[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]! I like [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as a nickname but it might be a little confusing if that is all he goes by, having a SIL named the same thing. If you only use it occasionally it’s not a big deal though. Some other nickname ideas are [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]/Eddie.

Eli works perfectly fine!

I think [name_u]Eli[/name_u] works for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I also like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and even [name_m]Otto[/name_m], but [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is really nice!

I think it definitely works!

Absolutely! [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is a perfect name for [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

Yeah, absolutely! I have a character named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] who often gets called [name_u]Eli[/name_u]. Works great, imo.

The one [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] I know in real life goes by [name_u]Eli[/name_u] every once in a while

Eli definitely works! [name_u]Elie[/name_u] (pronounced like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]) is another [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] nickname I love!

I haven’t heard it done, but your post makes me want to name a kid [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] nn [name_u]Eli[/name_u]. It sounds awesome.

Thank you! I [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Eli[/name_u] so will definitely use it if the majority vote is that it works. Not a fan of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] because that is all girl nickname to me for all the girl [name_f]Elle[/name_f] names out there.

I love [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] but I just don’t think they are intuitive enough. But I guess we will see what happens. You can acquire nicknames all your life so i guess that’s the beauty of nicknames.

I also knew a baby [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] nicknamed [name_u]Eli[/name_u] - he was absolutely adorable so I’m biased towards loving the name/nn combo
