Can I use this suffix?

I’m unfamiliar with the proper way to use suffixes. I really like the nickname Trip for a boy and was wondering if I’d be able to use the III suffix signifying triple, aka Trip. My grandfather’s name is Thomas Edmund and my father is Thomas Edmund Jr. Would my son then be Thomas Edmund III or would he be the II since my father used jr and not II? Are Jr. and II the same thing? Thanks

Edit: I’m a female but my brother was not named Thomas Edmund so I don’t know if that matters that it skipped a generation.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is a very handsome name, and [name_m]Trip[/name_m] is super cute!! I looked it up online and this is what I found! “That common usage is to use [name_m]Jr[/name_m] when the child is being named directly after his father and to use II when the child is to have the name of an earlier male relative, such as a grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, great-grandfather, etc.”

So I think you’ll be ok because the III works since it can be after an earlier relative doesn’t have to be the father!

[name_m]Jr[/name_m]. means the second one with the name, your father uses jr. because it’s after his father. If it was any other relative he’d use II. Your son is the third one with the name so he’s III.

I think he can be counted as a third. [name_m]Trip[/name_m] is sweet

I think he could be [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] III since he is the third in a line with the name! [name_m]Trip[/name_m] is very cute.
