We really like the name [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Bowie[/name_u]) but we’re having twin girls. The name means ‘son of [name_u]Owen[/name_u]’ which puts me off using it because even though it would sound alright for a girl, the meaning is completely opposite.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a similar name we can use instead.
We’re thinking [name_f]Nina[/name_f] for her twin but aren’t completely decided and the middle name for for one of them with be [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], but I have an [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] already and sisters called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. We also love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] but [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is the only full name we can agree on, but there’s so many E’s already in the family!
Some other ideas based on you liking [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and bearing in mind the flow for [name_f]Maya[/name_f] as a middle:
Why can’t you just use [name_u]Bowie[/name_u]? I think [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f], although quite different, would make a sweet sibling set. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I personally prefer it on a boy I know two little girls called [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] and it works quite well on them.
I love [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] on its own but our other three children all have names ending in ie, not intended and we don’t want [name_f]Nina[/name_f] to be left out so are looking for something that doesn’t end in ie.
Lots of names used on girls ([name_u]Addison[/name_u] and the like) mean son of… so I don’t think it would be an issue. I think [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] is a really cute nickname.
Maybe [name_m]Brodie[/name_m]? It’s a surname so should be ok for a girl. I could also see [name_u]Archer[/name_u] on a girl with a nn of [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] hehe.
I was just going to suggest this. [name_f]Boheme[/name_f] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] sound perfect together. The only thing is that [name_f]Maya[/name_f] doesn’t really go with either of them. Could you use [name_f]May[/name_f]? [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] would be really nice.
Another option is to put [name_f]Maya[/name_f] in the first name spot. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] are really great. Then, you could use [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] as a middle for either of them, without having to worry about the masculine feel. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] or [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_m]Bowen[/name_m]…
Here are some other names similar to [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] that would work with [name_f]Maya[/name_f].
Lowen [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (I love this for you—[name_u]Lowen[/name_u] means joy. [name_u]Lowen[/name_u] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] sound great. You could also get [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lolo[/name_f] as nicknames)
[name_m]Lowell[/name_m] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethan[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]/Bronwen/Bronwyn [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (another way to get to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f])
[name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (a way to get to [name_u]Bowie[/name_u])
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (as others have said)
[name_f]Derowen[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f] again; [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Derowen[/name_f] are lovely together)
[name_u]Arrow[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
Harlowe [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f])
All that said, if you really like [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] still, I think it’d be okay to use, despite the meaning.
Absolutely second [name_f]Boheme[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! Both would sound wonderful with [name_f]Nina[/name_f], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] would be lovely!
