Can Kit be a nickname for August?

Hi all! I’m currently in love with the name August, but try as I might I do not love Gus or Augie as nicknames. I like Gus better of the two but it’s definitely not my favorite. I love the nickname Kit for a boy, and just thought that it could maybe work as a stretch/pet name type nickname for August. Especially if you say August fast and pronounce it sort of like “Au-Gist” the end sounds of the “it” are there? Or maybe I’m just reaching lol. What are your thoughts? Or let me know other nn options for August!

Nicknames don’t have to be related to the name at all, and I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is absolutely a cute nickname for August. They’re both gender neutral too so it works both ways.

As a pet name unrelated to first name, go for it. But I really can’t see how you can make a connection between [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and August. As a pet name okay, as a nickname I don’t think it works.

I love it! I think it works well as a pet name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as a nickname really … It’s not intuitive but lots of nicknames aren’t. I guess the only consideration is that a child named [name_u]August[/name_u] may choose to go by [name_u]Gus[/name_u] or [name_m]Augie[/name_m] whether you like it or not. If that’s an issue I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] also works magnificently as a full name.

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] could work as a pet name, it sounds a bit like “kid” so could work in the same way as names like [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] or Buddy.

I don’t think it shares enough sounds with [name_u]August[/name_u] to make an intuitive nickname (it’s just the T to my ear), but if you love it no reason why you can’t use both. FWIW I love [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and especially [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] too!

I can see [name_u]Kit[/name_u] from [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] but I don’t see the connection to August. Sorry.

I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] could be a pet name

Im in the US and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a definitely feminine for me but [name_u]August[/name_u] is definitely male.

I think “kid” could be a pet name for any name and as [name_u]Kit[/name_u] sounds so similar, I think it works, too. However, it’s not a nickname I would make other people use as it’s a huge stretch.

I also have this dilemma with the name [name_u]August[/name_u], as I’m not particularly on [name_u]Gus[/name_u] either.

I think I’d use Aussie / Ozzy… but again I think it’s a stretch!
