Can Montana work on a boy?

So I have a coworker whose name is [name_u]Santana[/name_u] but his nickname sometimes is [name_f]Tana[/name_f] and I thought that was such a cool/cute nickname (and I’m not even big into nicknames!) and it really works on him so I was thinking of other names it could be a nickname for, and all I’ve got is [name_u]Montana[/name_u]. I’ve always really considered it a girl name but I have met a couple male [name_u]Montana[/name_u]'s and it IS listed as unisex… so I was wondering if [name_u]Montana[/name_u] was too much to the girls or is it usable for a boy? Another plus is that I like both the nicknames [name_m]Monty[/name_m] and [name_f]Tana[/name_f]! Also, is it too weird to name someone [name_u]Montana[/name_u] when I have no type of relation to the state?

I think [name_u]Montana[/name_u] for a boy is very cowboyish! I rather like it. I thought it was sort of cool for a girl when I first heard it, but I still find it hard to imagine a [name_u]Montana[/name_u]. It’s unusual enough that I think it could work. [name_m]Monty[/name_m] and [name_f]Tana[/name_f] are very nice, but I think I’d just use [name_u]Montana[/name_u] in whole, honestly.

I think [name_u]Montana[/name_u] nicknamed [name_m]Monty[/name_m] could work for a guy! You don’t need a connection to [name_u]Montana[/name_u] either imo. The State and the name both call to mind a rugged outdoors feel and Montaña in Spanish means mountain. All good associations no matter if you have a special connection!

I have only met one [name_u]Montana[/name_u] (no nn), and she fit the name beautifully. Very active, outdoorsy, mountain climber from [name_f]Arizona[/name_f], I think, who spends her time as an environmental activist. Despite my [name_u]Montana[/name_u] being a girl, I think the name is perfectly unisex.

Yeah, I think so. [name_m]Monty[/name_m] would be a cute nickname.

I’ve only heard [name_u]Montana[/name_u] on a boy.

My friend’s son is named [name_u]Montana[/name_u], but they call him [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] - I’ve always liked the name better on a boy, personally.

I’ve never heard it, but I like it! Very masculine to my ear, so I would say I prefer it on a boy.

I was good friends with a girl named [name_u]Montana[/name_u] when I was younger. However, its one of those names I could see on a girl and boy equally.

Yes, it can! A friend of mine’s husband is named [name_u]Montana[/name_u].

I like it! [name_m]Monty[/name_m] is very handsome, too.
