Can our names rhyme?!

So the only name we both like for a boy so far is [name_u]Joey[/name_u]… but my name is [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and I worry it sounds silly.
We like nickname / shorter names for boys…
and would probably go with a more traditional family name like [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] for a middle name.
But just can’t get out of my head that I will wince a bit telling people, waiting for them to point out it rhymes as if I’d not noticed!

Our little boy is due in under 6 weeks so really need to start getting close to a decision…

Others in our short list are

[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_m]Eddy[/name_m]
[name_u]Billy[/name_u]

Any thoughts welcome x

I think it would be fine -kind of like a sweet connection to you. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Billy[/name_u] though

Personally I like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_u]Joey[/name_u] they fit well for me. I don’t think the rhyming is a big deal. However if you are bothered by it then you should change it because people are people and will probably comment (not maliciously by any means it’s cute)

Hmm, I don’t think I’d do it if it were me. Fine as a nickname, but I wouldn’t want our full names to rhyme.

Joey is sweet and I like all your other options too. Maybe also…

Jesse
[name_u]Sonny[/name_u]
[name_u]Louie[/name_u]
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
[name_m]Albie[/name_m]
[name_m]Monty[/name_m]
[name_u]Rudy[/name_u]
[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]
[name_m]Benji[/name_m]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]
[name_m]Buddy[/name_m]
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_m]Tommy[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
[name_u]Olly[/name_u]
[name_u]Joss[/name_u]

I think it would be fine but some people might point it out. [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is a nice combination. The other names on your short list seem also good options.

thank you, such a great list, and definitely lots I’ve considered.
Plus a few little boys I already know - my nephew is [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and have friends with [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & [name_u]Rory[/name_u]! Such cute names, I should have had a baby sooner & made this much easier!!!

It would personally drive me bananas (this is why as a [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] I won’t ever give a child the first names [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] or [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]) but I don’t actually think it would really come up and even friends and family may not notice they rhyme immediately. If it doesn’t bother you, I think it’s fine.

You could also go with [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] nn [name_u]Joey[/name_u], while his nickname would rhyme, they wouldn’t rhyme on official documents.

I like [name_u]Joey[/name_u], but not so much with [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_m]Monty[/name_m]

I have an aunt and cousin (they are mom and daughter) with names ending in -ette

I always thought it was a really cute connection for them. But names ending with -ette are less common than names ending with the -ee sound. So I feel like the rhyming of [name_u]Joey[/name_u] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a lot less noticeable.

Thanks Elle1 I guess written down they don’t look too similar do they.

Plus what I didn’t mention is I never changed to my husbands surname , and I would give our son the same surname as him… so our full names would sound quite different overall.

So that gives me a bit of hope that I’d grow to love it, as I do love overall the name [name_u]Joey[/name_u] with my husbands surname…
So excited to meet our little boy soon… but I’m sure a girl would have been easier for us to name ha!

I wouldn’t do it - to me it would look/sound too cutesy even though that isn’t your intention.

I agree with @brittanyanitarose that [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] with [name_u]Joey[/name_u] as a nickname would be a good option, so that his nickname would rhyme with your name but not his full name. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Lastname? [name_u]Or[/name_u] would you consider flipping it to be [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] Lastname, whom you could occasionally call [name_u]Joey[/name_u]?

I really like [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] from your shortlist!

Trying not to repeat any of the earlier alternative suggestions but you might also like:

James, “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]”
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]”, “[name_u]Jerry[/name_u]”, “[name_u]Remy[/name_u]”
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], or [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] (could also be nicknamed [name_u]Joey[/name_u])
[name_u]Josey[/name_u] (so close to [name_u]Joey[/name_u] but crucially doesn’t rhyme with [name_f]Chloe[/name_f])
[name_m]John[/name_m], “[name_u]Johnnie[/name_u]”

I would go for [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. It’s such a lovely name, and even if you rarely use it at home, he may prefer it as an adult.

Personally I think it’s fine.
I have experienced a situation with rhyming names, not the same thing as this but both mine and my younger step- brothers names rhyme (he is only 13 so still lives with my dad and his partner so our names are often said together) what makes it worse is his name is H@rry and my actual name is C@rr1e! In the end it doesn’t actually make a difference. Not the most positive connotation (especially if his name is said first!)

Obviously if you can avoid rhyming your names then great but if [name_u]Joey[/name_u] is the only name for you, then just go with it. After all many parents and children have the same name (seniors & juniors etc) so I can’t see a problem with rhyming names. I would practice saying them together in a situation you may come across and see how you feel then.

I love that!!! It really sounds like [name_u]Joey[/name_u] is the right name for your little one!

i second going with [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and calling him [name_u]Joey[/name_u] as a nickname, but what about the very similar [name_u]Joby[/name_u] ? it makes the similarity with [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] a little less cringy for you, but keeps the cutesy quality of [name_u]Joey[/name_u]

I wouldn’t do it, for me. (I would never call my daughter [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] even though I love it as it rhymes with my name)
If you’re already mentally wincing at the thought of you telling people his name that’s not a great start.

Why not call him [name_m]Joe[/name_m]? Then he could easily be [name_u]Joey[/name_u] informally and you can avoid wincing. If [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is too formal sounding I think [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] or [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] are nice alternatives.

Of course your names can rhyme! It is not silly at all!! Men have juniors all the time and nobody finds that odd. Parents select family names for their babies all the time.
So why can’t you pick a name with a similar ending sound for your son, if it is your favorite? I think it creates a beautiful and unexpected connection between your names.

Another vote for [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] on the certificate, using [name_u]Joey[/name_u].

Thank you everyone… [name_f]Estrela[/name_f] I’m keeping yours as the final comment in my head… that it’s a lovely connection between us…
If people do think it’s a bit odd they won’t say it to my face anyway!
And as I haven’t changed my surname to my husbands and he’ll have same surname as his dad overall our names sound quite different …
Plus he will always call me mum so the one person it’s all about would never notice really!!

Ok now I’m just debating [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] , (surname 2 syllables beginning with B) or mixing it up with [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_u]Edison[/name_u] … the decisions never stop!
