Can Rhys be short for anything?

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I really like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] ([name_u]Reece[/name_u]/[name_u]Reese[/name_u]-Cant agree on spelling!) for our boy due on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. Our biggest concern with the name is that our other two children ([name_m]Bennett[/name_m] & [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]) both have names that can be shortened, while [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is pretty limited. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of names [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] could be short for? The only thing I can come up with is [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] which I am not a fan of. Or any natural nn’s suggestions you see owing from [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]?
Thank you for any ideas you can provide!

[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] ( EHM riss )

[name_m]Demetrius[/name_m]

[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] are awesome names. if you chose [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] ( if u like it ), it would make sense to use the [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] spelling.

There’s also no reason to use a long name if you love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] give him a three plus syllable middle name to balance it out.

Thank you very much ashleyjuliette, I would have never come up with either of those - I will run them by the hubby!

[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is a great suggestion!

[name_m]Boris[/name_m]
[name_u]Brice[/name_u] (“brees”, not [name_u]Bryce[/name_u])
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_m]Christian[/name_m]
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
Dimitris
[name_m]Drystan[/name_m]
Faris
[name_u]Fabrice[/name_u]
[name_u]Floris[/name_u]
[name_m]Idris[/name_m]
[name_u]Maurice[/name_u]
[name_u]Paris[/name_u]
[name_u]Patrice[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] (especially something like [name_m]Richard[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Richard[/name_m] [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], [name_m]Richard[/name_m] [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m])

[name_m]Harris[/name_m]? Or maybe [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]?

It’s a bit of a stretch, but my first thought was Rhydian with a middle name beginning with an S.

I really like the suggestion of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] only thought was [name_u]Maurice[/name_u]–the other Berries are much more creative than me when it comes to things like this! I went to college with a [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. (or II, or III, or IV, or something) who went exclusively by [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. It was the first time I met a [name_u]Reece[/name_u]/[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_u]Reese[/name_u], and I thought it so so utterly rugged and masculine. He wore it really well. I like just [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], though. Although I can see your concern–I’m the only one in my family to not have a nn naturally derived from my fn (amongst other things. So maybe he wouldn’t notice it, haha. I also am the only one with no family name, an also no Biblical name–my siblings have [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]), and I miss not fitting in sometimes. Although I’m glad my parents didn’t rigidly stick to a very cookie-cutter theme when they named us, so maybe I shouldn’t be a sore loser.

What about a double barreled name like [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]? or [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m].

I have seen it short for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m].
I think it could be short for [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u], Ristan, or truthfully any R name…I think…
[name_m]John[/name_m]-[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a good name choice too…

Also, just thought of [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m]. I think this would make a perfect long form of [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], and goes well with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]!

I posted on your last forum when you were considering the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I had shared I have a son named [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as well. It’s a great name. I think it depends on how much you want the family sib set to match. All my sons have short four letter Celtic names, but I don’t think many people notice it …but I do. Maybe you want to use [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as a middle name? I have no idea why…but when I saw your other children’s names my nephews name popped into my head, which is [name_m]Clayton[/name_m]. You could call him [name_m]Clay[/name_m] and fits with your more vintage, yet cool sib set names. Good luck!

I love the suggestion of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]! I really like just [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] though.

I’m really loving the sibset of [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. So cute! I don’t think you really need a long form if you’ll only be calling him [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. It stands perfectly fine on its own. But, of the above options, I think [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] your best “long form”

Also, I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is your best spelling option, if you decide to go with just [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].
