I have loved the name [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] for ages but have always thought of it as a cute nickname but today the name [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] came into my mind.
Is this just a crazy late pregnancy idea or can [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] stand alone as a name.
Also our surname is a type of animal, is that weird with a bird first name
Ooh, [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is stunning! And I think [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] could work as a sweet stand alone. The one [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] I know has [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] as her formal name, but honestly, I think just [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is perfect
Hmm… as for the surname thing, I am really not sure. I am imagining [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], etc. I guess it is noticeable, but I think it would still be usable? Your call, really!
I knew a girl named [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] (not [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] - like [name_f]Bride[/name_f] but with an ee sound) and that worked fine. So why not [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is very sweet.
I think the surname question very much depends on the actual surname. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Starling[/name_f] - I wouldn’t. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] Herring - sure.
It can stand on it’s own, but it would be weird if her name was [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] animal-last-name. Kind of like if you met a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u].
I don’t see why not. However you did mention that your last name was an animal so it depends on that. Someone else mentioned [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]/[name_f]Bridey[/name_f] which would also be great.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is very unique and I think it works. Not a name I would be brave enough for, but if I met a little (or older) [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], I would find it so awesome.
If you are hesitating, I would err on the side of providing options. At this point, you don’t know what your daughter will be like or what kind of life she will build for herself and this name has to work for her entire life. If her formal name was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], or [name_f]Roberta[/name_f], you could still call her [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] virtually all the time if it turned out to suit her perfectly. You can provide options without giving up [name_f]Birdie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is adorable, but with an animal last name I personally wouldn’t use it as her full name. St@gg is not terrible with it by any means, but I still find the combo just a bit too cariacature-ish with that surname - sorry!
My hesitation with names ending in the long E sound is to try to think how much like a diminutive it sounds versus how well it would work on a grownup. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] sounds very much like a little girl and not so much like a grownup. I know a girl whose birth certificate says [name_f]Katie[/name_f], and and as grownup she goes by [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I like erin_beth’s suggestion of finding a longer, more formal name and calling her [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], if that fits her. As far as having an animal first name and an animal last name, I think it might be a little much, although St@gg is not as noticeable as, perhaps, Swallow or [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] or some other bird would be.
