I don’t like the name [name]Theodore[/name] at all. My husband would never agree to a long formal name anyway. I really love [name]Theo[/name] though. My kids’ name are short and spunky: [name]Boston[/name] and [name]Piper[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Theo[/name] is too old-fashioned next to them or could it work if I used [name]Theo[/name] all by itself?
Other names we like are [name]Oakley[/name] and [name]Crew[/name].
Personally, I’d say no. I like longer, more formal names and then nicknames derived from those. But it all boils down to personal preference. If you like the nickname, then use it.
I think [name]Theo[/name] can stand on its own. I like [name]Theo[/name], but not a fan of theodore either. i also think it goes with your other kids names!
I personally prefer giving the kid a longer, more “formal” name to go with the nickname. That way if he decides one day to go by [name]Ted[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name] or something, he has the option. I like that although I go by [name]Jenni[/name], I have the more “formal” name of [name]Jennifer[/name] (though my family still calls me by my full name anyways…).
I prefer [name]Theo[/name] to [name]Theodore[/name] and people are using [name]Leo[/name] on it’s own so I don’t see why [name]Theo[/name] can’t be used on it’s own. I love it!
Absolutely. I like both of them, and for that reason might pick [name]Theodore[/name] over [name]Theo[/name], but [name]Theo[/name] sounds lovely with your kids’ names, and definitely stands on its own. I’ve seen it written on formal things (I have a few students named [name]Theo[/name]) and it works just fine.
I would assume his name was [name]Theodore[/name]. Your other children’s names are short but they’re still full names, while [name]Theo[/name] has a nn
I think I prefer [name]Cruz[/name] over [name]Crew[/name], and [name]Boston[/name] [name]Crew[/name] sound like a team
[name]Oakley[/name] is one of my favorite botanical-esque names
I like long, formal names with nickname options, but my husband has never agreed to one. I don’t care for [name]Ted[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name] anyway, so it doesn’t bother me to not give him more options. I like to give my kids wearable middle names so they have a second option (since their first names don’t really allow for more options).
I never thought about [name]Boston[/name] and [name]Crew[/name] sounding like a team, but now that you say it, I’m glad that [name]Piper[/name] was a girl or we would have [name]Boston[/name] and [name]Crew[/name]! [name]Piper[/name] breaks it up a little though…
We both love [name]Oakley[/name], but I’m not sure if we’ll be able to commit to it because we live in Oklahoma.
nat108 - Also, I really like [name]Milo[/name] but my cousin has a little [name]Milo[/name], I also had a distant cousin [name]Levi[/name] who died in childhood, so that name is out too. I never met him, but the memories are too strong for some of my other family members to use it. I’m not sure why, but [name]Cruz[/name] has always sounded too Spanish for my blonde, blue-eyed kids. The mental picture just seems so odd to me.
With [name]Boston[/name] and [name]Piper[/name], I think [name]Theodore[/name] would be too serious and formal sounding for a sibling anyway so [name]Theo[/name] would be a better choice. I think the spunky [name]Theo[/name] can stand on its own. The [name]Queen[/name]'s youngest child [name]Edward[/name] chose [name]Theo[/name] for one of his son’s middle names. I think it’s much more popular option as a first name in [name]England[/name] than it is in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name]. [name]Oakley[/name] and [name]Crew[/name] would be good choices too but I think I prefer [name]Theo[/name].
The use of just [name]Theo[/name] has ruined the name [name]Theodore[/name] for me as a first name. There were 1478 boys named [name]Theo[/name] in the UK in 2010, against 437 boys named [name]Theodore[/name]. It kind of took off because there is a young footballer named [name]Theo[/name] Walcott, and that kind of set it off as a stand alone first name.
I much prefer [name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name] but apparently in the UK the majority love nicknames as first names.
I love [name]Piper[/name]! (And [name]Boston[/name]!) [name]Piper[/name] was a favorite, but it turns out we are having a boy.
Anyway, I love [name]Theo[/name], but agree that [name]Theodore[/name] doesn’t really fit with his sibling names. However, I had a friend [name]Abbey[/name] growing up and she spent lots of time telling people that her real name was not [name]Abigail[/name], just [name]Abbey[/name]. [name]Just[/name] food for thought.
I think that [name]Theo[/name] works fine by itself! [name]Leo[/name] works, why not?! : ) And I actually think that it flows great with your other childrens’ names (which I love by the way!). [name]Boston[/name], [name]Piper[/name], and [name]Theo[/name]. It’s great!
I think [name]Theo[/name] could definitely work alone. I think that [name]Boston[/name], [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] work well together, and you don’t need to shorten [name]Theo[/name]. As far as your other names go, I have to say I don’t really like [name]Oakley[/name] or [name]Crew[/name]. [name]Oakley[/name] reminds me too much of the brand, and I just don’t see [name]Crew[/name] as a name.
I totally think [name]Theo[/name] can stand alone. I agree with you, I actually really don’t care for [name]Theodore[/name] --it has Odor in the middle of it >.O-- but [name]Theo[/name] sounds great to me!
Haha! My aunt’s name was [name]Eleanor[/name], and she HATED her name and changed it as an adult. It might have something to do with my dad (her older brother) calling her smell-a-dork her whole life. [name]Theodore[/name] always reminds of of smell-a-dork.
It’s true! Here the most popular names are nicknames… [name]Archie[/name], [name]Alfie[/name]. Having said that many names that started off as nicknames are now considered standalone ([name]Eliza[/name] from [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Jack[/name] from [name]John[/name], etc) and I think [name]Theo[/name] is most definitely one of them. It also goes with your other two really well. [name]Theodore[/name] is a bit pretentious [name]IMO[/name] but [name]Theo[/name] has a totally different vibe. Go for it!
Yep, I think [name]Theo[/name] is fine by itself. I actually know a 1.5 year-old named [name]Theo[/name] (pronounced TEH-o), and it works perfectly on him.
I also prefer [name]Theo[/name] by a million miles over [name]Oakley[/name] and [name]Crew[/name]… that, and I do like [name]Theo[/name] a lot.
In my (British) opinion yes most definitely. [name]Just[/name] like [name]Toby[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Harry[/name], [name]Jack[/name] etc it is perfectly substantial on it’s own.
[name]Theo[/name] I think goes perfectly with the other two - short and spunky Great name choices!
I don’t like [name]Theodore[/name] at all but I love [name]Theo[/name]. I do prefer [name]Crew[/name] with your sibset but [name]Theo[/name] is a much better name in my opinion. I’m not one to worry to much about creating sibsets though. My American opinion here.
I actually think it works really nicely on it’s own. I would definitely say [name]Theodore[/name] woudn’t fit in the sibset, but a [name]Theo[/name]? I think it’s nice! It’s a more modern nn to me, and that works with the rest.
