Can we talk about Kate and Katherine? 🌻

@Lula-Rose Thank you so much! I do love both for different reasons, but I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] sounds a little harsh at times (at least when I say it). To me, [name_f]Kate[/name_f] always sounds sweet, spunky, and bright.

Thank you again!

Give her Kathryn or Katherine or however want to spell it. And use Kate if you like it better in whatever manner you like. Stand alone or double barrel. She can be named Katherine and go predominately by Kate. Its very very common. Just like an Elizabeth going by Beth. There’s no reason you couldn’t use both and give yourself (and her) a little flexibility throughout her life.

But if Sunday has consistently brought you joy, dont deprive yourself of that. Its ok to like two very different things. But, to me, it isnt SO different that it couldnt be used with the classics. It too is soft and sweet. And using it would be just adventurous enough to give it that ā€œspunkyā€ aspect. Go with the names you love, not with any so called ā€œrules.ā€ Most of us dont get too many chances to do this. There are a gillion Kates but not Sundays. Although Sunday Kate is cute too. Its funny though, I never meet new little Katie’s anymore and I really like it too.

@kitkat Thank you so much for this! You are so kind and helpful! I actually know someone whose name is [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. It’s her full name, not a nickname! Thank you again!

I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] gives you the best of both worlds? I grew up with a [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and she got fed up easily with all the ā€œis that short for Katie/Kathryn/etc.?ā€ questions. Because of that I was always sort of put off of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a stand-alone but I think it could work without my bias :joy::joy:

If you’re not naming an actual baby just yet… maybe see which one grows on you with time? I don’t make decisions easily or quickly so I’m glad I have had the convenience of years to waffle between [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a middle, Ella-Cate as a double barrel to my current favorite, [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]! And if you are naming a real baby… I hope you have enough time to settle into which one feels right for you. In this season of life, [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is just right for me

@ashthedreamer Thank you so much! Ella-Cate is so sweet! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I also like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I’m not naming a child yet, and probably won’t be for several years. I’m just having fun for now!

Thank you again for all your help and kindness!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] to see my name and nn getting some love here!! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though Katherine/Kate can be considered kinda ā€œboring,ā€ I’ve always been fond of my name. Like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] just sounds cute. I will say, it’s very frustrating how many spelling variants of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] there are. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] will never not look wrong to me. It’s also a little annoying to be called [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathlyn[/name_f]. People will give me new nicknames (like [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_u]Kitty[/name_u], etc) even though I already have one?? For such a common name, it’s still really easy to get wrong :woman_shrugging:. All in all though, I really do love my name. It’s elegant and timeless and it fits me well. Don’t worry if your other names pair well: nobody has ever asked me for my sibling’s names after learning mine. As long as you love your choices, I say go for it!!

@Kathweenie Thank you so much! It makes me so happy to hear that you love your name and nickname so much! I can absolutely see how it would be frustrating to have a name that has so many different spellings. I have a classic, traditional name too, but I don’t think it has as many spelling variations as yours does! I have many different nicknames from both my family and friends, and I love that. I don’t really feel that I prefer one over the others because for me, the nickname that is used is attached to the person and their love for me. I do have a nickname that I go by most often though! It does bug me that when people have a specific nickname that they want to go by and ask to be addressed that way, there are a few people who still call them by other names!

I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] sound good with almost every name. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] are honor names for me. I know I will use at least one of them if I have a daughter someday. I think adding [name_f]Kate[/name_f] makes them even spunkier than they are on their own!

Thank you again!
