Can you have more than 2 middle names?

So I was just looking at all the names I have and started to say to myself…“I have all of these beautiful names I love and I’m not sure I’m going to have an easy time figuring out only 2 to use… so would it be OK if I gave my child 3 middle names???”

What do you berries think of giving your child 3 middle names?? Could it work??

Also can you hyphenate middle names??

Can you have more than two middle names? Yes, you can have as many as you want. Should you is another question - my answer would be no, I think the whole trend is really pretentious and irritating. If it wouldn’t fit on one line on a driver’s license, I don’t think you should use it - but that’s my personal opinion, no offense meant to anyone else.

Yes, you can hyphenate middle names as well, I know a couple people who have done it.

Its a bit British [name]Royal[/name] Family imho. I like 2 middle names but if you have a daughter who wants to double barrell her surname thats gonna be a whole mouthful of names!

I am a huge fan of two MNs, but three is a bit over-the-top for me. I knew two people with three middle names–one is a family friend, and the other a close personal friend of mine–and I know the personal friend hated it, anyway. All three of her MNs were extremely long ([name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Kathryn[/name], I think…), and it never fit on any forms… ever. So if you do it, I would suggest keeping at least one (maybe even two) of the MNs quite short–something like [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Lily[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or something, as opposed to [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Katerina[/name]… If that makes sense. I’m not sure of the logistics of it, but I would think it would be a lot more of a hassle than just two (or even one) MNs.

Good luck!

I think it is too much trouble when filling out forms.

I think its a bit unnecessary, but my kids are going to have three middle names so I can’t say much. Two were given at birth, and a third will be taken on when they are Confirmed into the Catholic Church aged 12 or so.

I actually have 3 middle names  My mom and her two best friends promised they’d all name their children after each other, so I’m named after my mom & both of them. [name]Ive[/name] always liked it! However, when it came to filling out forms, etc. I usually just use my first middle name, since it’s my mom’s first name and it’s just easier. People always seem to find it really interesting. I say if you love it, go for it!

I think it’s kind of silly, not to bash anyone or anything. But when I hear four names (plus the surname) on a person, I think it was just like the mom smushed in as many names as she possibly could. To me, simplicity is beautiful. Totally agree with lori johnson though, you’ll just have to have more babies

I’m a huge fan of two middle names, but three is just way too much to me.

Personally, I’m a big fan of two or even three middle names. I think it may have to do with my love of [name]History[/name] and the fact I’m a bit of a royalist

I think it would be fine as long as it doesn’t become too long. I mean [name]Alessandra[/name] Chamomile [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name] LAST is ridiculous, but [name]Jane[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] [name]Heather[/name] [name]June[/name] LAST isn’t terrible. The tough part would be making them all flow and knowing where to draw the line, imo.

I think after two middles things get cluttered and it begins to look like you just couldnt choose so you gave them a list of names.

Seems like a little much. I have 2 middle names, which I always liked, but I think having 3 would be irritating and lengthy…3 middle names, along with a first and a last, that’s FIVE names in a row! I know we all [name]LOVE[/name] names here, but none of the names wuld be appreciated properly, when they’re part of a big long parade like that. That’s just my opinion though…to each her own.
