I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Saige[/name]- love, love, love!! I don’t, however, feel that it will age well, and I also think that one-syllable given names can seem lacking. I’ve thought about using [name]Saige[/name] as a middle name, but I feel like it always sounds like you’re talking about how old the child is ([name]Lydia[/name] [name]Sage[/name]/ [name]Lydia[/name]'s age). I’ve also been brainstorming names that can have “[name]Saige[/name]” as a nickname, but I just don’t like Sangria or Sacagawea (I’m sure I’m missing some names, here!). I have been saying [name]Saige[/name] to myself for months, and the sound of it makes me smile from ear to ear, so today I thought of something. If I name my daughter a traditional “S” name (one that will look good on a resume) and a middle name starting with “G”, I might find a combination that lends itself to the nickname “[name]Saige[/name]”, and I’ll get to keep saying it for the rest of my life!!
Here is a list of my favorite names, to give you an idea of my style, which is all over the place. Over half of the names on this list are unusable for one reason or another, but I keep going back to them for inspiration. I’m looking for a name that isn’t in the top 20, but goshdarnit if I just can’t help but like many of the names in the top 20! I can’t explain why I like the names that I do, and I can’t put a rule on any names that I don’t like, so I’m open to any and all suggestions. Also, siblings names are [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Maddux[/name] [name]Pierce[/name], and [name]Garrett[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]. Thanks so much for your help!
[name]Sakura[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
[name]Seraphine[/name] [name]Grove[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name] [name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Seren[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Sorrell[/name] [name]Gwynn[/name] ([name]Sorrell[/name] and [name]Sage[/name] are both herbs so I guess you could stretch it to that)
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
I prefer [name]Sage[/name] to [name]Saige[/name] (which just feels too much like [name]Paige[/name] with an S). I think that if it’s spelled like the plant it become a little more timeless and ages a bit better.
Being me, I’m tempted to suggest names like [name]Sybella[/name] and [name]Seraphine[/name], but they would not match at all with your naming style. [name]How[/name] about:
[name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
Paired with [name]Gillian[/name] (with a hard g). [name]Saige[/name] is a very intuitive nickname for a little [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Gillian[/name], and it matches your other kids well.
I would go with names that begin with a [name]Say[/name] or Suh sound and a middle that has a soft ‘g’. But, anyone can work, although I think the ‘s’ name should have an ‘a’ sound in it.
I’m not sure if these are your style, but what about a name ending with ‘s’ and the middle name being [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Agatha[/name] or [name]Agate[/name]?
I think [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] is a perfect name for you because it comes from Sophos, meaning wisdom, and a “sage” is a wise person, so even if you just name her [name]Sophie[/name]/a, I think you could call her [name]Sage[/name] without the G middle name.
Another option would be to research different types of the sage plant and see if one of them could be used for a name, and then you could call her [name]Sage[/name] because her name came from a type of sage plant. For instance. [name]Sylvia[/name] sounds kind of like [name]Salvia[/name] which is the formal name for the common sage plant. There’s also [name]Artemisia[/name], which is the formal name of sagebrush. This may sound like a stretch, but it doesn’t sound like you mind stretches. [name]Just[/name] trying to throw out some options.
You could also just name her [name]Saige[/name] or [name]Sage[/name]. It’s very close to [name]Paige[/name], which is a perfectly acceptable name for a child or adult. As is [name]Sage[/name] – I’m just trying to give examples of other names that are similar to maybe make you feel better about it. I would love to meet a little [name]Sage[/name] and I think she would grow into a lovely woman named [name]Sage[/name]. It might be easier than explaining to people how you came up with her nickname.
Thank you all for your replies! We were actually choosing between [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] with our older daughter (but chose [name]Hannah[/name] because we thought it went better with [name]Maddux[/name], who is her twin). I have always loved [name]Sophie[/name], but since it sounds more nick-namey I would definitely give her the name [name]Sophia[/name]. [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Gage[/name] lends itself very well to the nickname [name]Saige[/name] (and I love it!), but dh is not fond of the masculine middle name. He’s considering [name]Paige[/name], though, so I may get to call her [name]Saige[/name] with no questions asked! We are having a similar struggle over boy names- he loves the name [name]Cole[/name] but I think it’s too short, so he’s considering going with my suggestions of [name]Cullen[/name] or [name]Callan[/name] so that he gets to use [name]Cole[/name]. Life is full of compromise!
I immediately thought of [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Paige[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Paige[/name]… which to me could easily become [name]Saige[/name]. But, to answer what you’re actually looking for…
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Paige[/name] is actually quite lovely. I still think you could call her [name]Sage[/name] just from [name]Sophia[/name] though, since it means wisdom and that’s what sage means as well. That actually seems like less of a stretch than getting it from S. [name]Paige[/name]. [name]Just[/name] my opinion, though. You have to do what’s most comfortable for you. Good luck!
Does your DH like [name]Columbus[/name], Colson, [name]Colton[/name], [name]Collier[/name] or [name]Colman[/name]. [name]Even[/name] [name]Nicolas[/name] could easily be called [name]Cole[/name].
Also, [name]Lincoln[/name] could probably be called [name]Cole[/name]–and that fits well with [name]Maddux[/name].
