Can you use a first name beginning with SH if your....

last name begins with SCH? But makes the same sound like Shh. Is that weird or too matchy? Name I am thinking of is Shepard/Shepherd.

I think it depends on the name, if you don’t mind sharing what is the first name that starts with the SH?

@jtucker- [name]Shepard[/name] or [name]Shepherd[/name] not sure which spelling to go with.

If it’s someting like [name]Shepard[/name] [name]Sheffield[/name] (first last name I could think of starting with SH), then for me it’s too much. It just sounds very cartoonish imo.

Our surname is Schamarek. Its pronounced Sham-ah-wreck

[name]Shepard[/name]/[name]Shepherd[/name] Schamarek?

My cousins name is [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Evans[/name] would is be like that? And I legit thought [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Evans[/name] was way too matchy when I heard it.

With that last name, it’s a little better since it’s the not the She- sound twice in a row, but a She followed by a Sha, but I personally still wouldn’t do it. I’m not a fan of alliterated names in general though…

So to really answer your question, yes you CAN, it’s not going to harm the child in any way, unless they end up having a lisp… it’s really a personal preference.

Honestly, I think it’s fine. It’s maybe not ideal, but what is? I don’t think the kid will be mercilessly teased or anything for a name like that. If [name]Shepherd[/name] is really your favorite name, if it’s really significant to you in some way, and you can’t imagine calling him anything else, use it. It’s not terrible.

I am still in search of a name we both love so I am trying different things. I heard this little boy with that name and I really liked. But with our last name I didn’t know if worked well or not. I am not sold on the name and its not a definite but trying to find a name WE love, and that flows well with our last name seems impossible.

I think you are right. It is good to hear feedback. I also could be hearing it one way but to others it can sound completely different. And the search continues.

Those kind of names really irk me. [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Evans[/name]? {shudder} It is a bit better than [name]Evan[/name] [name]Evans[/name], but it is pretty bad…
[name]Shepherd[/name] Schamarek is sort of like that. Plus it is really long. With a last name that is going to be difficult to spell and pronounce, a simpler name would be better.

I literally cringed when I heard my cousins name [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Evans[/name] so I guess I you are are with the [name]Shepard[/name]. Not having that with my child. I just wanted other opinions to see how people would hear the name.
