Although [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is traditionally a boy name, I think it has a strong, determined sound for a girl. What are your thoughts?
I used to love [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] until I realized that it sounds like “cane in” (like you’re going to whip someone and use a cane to do so). My liking has subsided sustantially so personally I wouldn’t use it for either gender. With violence against women at epidemic proportions all over the world, this name wouldn’t be very cool for a girl.
It just sounds like the town in NH to me. Not a stand out choice for either gender. Sorry!
[name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is a dog breed, so I don’t like it for a human name.

I knew a female [name_m]Canaan[/name_m], a very studious, direct and pleasant tween. I have great associations with the name, therefore I think it’s fine
That’s just ridiculous (and I don’t use that word lightly). [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is a masculine name, always has been, always will be. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t enough male biblical names (and non biblical ones, too) been stolen for female use?
It’s not pronounced that way in Hebrew. It’s ka-NAHN.
I really don’t care for the English [name_m]CANE[/name_m]-in pronunciation. I’ve heard it said like cannon, too, which isn’t really more attractive.
cute I like it
It just isn’t my cup of tea stylistically.
i wouldn’t use this name for a boy far less for a girl.
So although using boy names on girls seems to be a thing these days, I wouldn’t even use this name on a boy
