Can't find a name we love! Too many names, so overwhelmed!

Since I was a little girl I have always been fascinated with names. I feel like I know [name]EVERY[/name] name under the sun. I always knew my favorite names, even though they changed over the years. Now DH and I are expecting our first. All of the sudden I don’t love any names. I feel so overwhelmed that I don’t even know where to begin to find a name I love. In this post I’ll focus on girl names to make it a little easier on me.

We like unique, glamorous, sophisticated names, and maybe a little exotic? Please honestly tell me what you think of these, and feel free to suggest: (Last name is [name]Olson[/name])

[name]Amelie[/name] - I love it when pron. correctly. DH isn’t a fan

[name]Scarlett[/name] - DH will call her “Scary” just to bug me

[name]Eve[/name] - too plain? I love the nn [name]Evie[/name]. But with last name it sounds like “evil son”

[name]Eva[/name] - pronounced EY-va like [name]Ava[/name], still too common?

[name]Violet[/name] - DH loves, but it’s a little too old fashioned for my taste

[name]Natalia[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] this but will only use it as a mn b/c my name is [name]Natalie[/name]

[name]Ania[/name] - DH doesn’t like it as much as I do

Please help! I feel so stuck :frowning:

[name]Unique[/name], glamorous, sophisticated and maybe a little exotic - I’m sure we can help! As none of the ones you have listed seems to work for you and DH, how about:

[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]

Good luck!

I love [name]Amelie[/name] but at least in the area I live in it would get mispronounced a lot. I agree [name]Eve[/name] isn’t a great choice with your last name. [name]Ava[/name] is expected to get very popular in the near future and is already fairly popular so that may be an issue with [name]Eva[/name].

What do you think of [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Amalia[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Nadia[/name], or [name]Sophie[/name]

[name]Amelie[/name]: I love [name]Amelie[/name]! Yes, it brings to mind the movie, but it’s such a fantastic movie.

[name]Scarlett[/name]: For some reason I’m not a [name]Scarlett[/name] fan. I do love [name]Charlotte[/name] though.

[name]Eve[/name]: Not plain at all. But it does run together with your last name a bit.

[name]Eva[/name]: [name]Love[/name] [name]Eva[/name]! Still a little bit of a mouthful with your last name, but not as much as [name]Eve[/name].

[name]Violet[/name]: I much prefer [name]Violet[/name] to [name]Scarlett[/name], but I think it’s going to get very popular.

[name]Natalia[/name]: I love [name]Natalia[/name] (and [name]Natalie[/name] too!)

[name]Ania[/name]: [name]How[/name] do you pronounce this? I like [name]Anya[/name]/[name]Anja[/name] quite a bit.

Some others you may like:
[name]Apolline[/name] (one of my new faves)
[name]Saskia[/name] (so cool with your last name!)

Good luck

I love your choices, but do agree that [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evie[/name] etc are too popular. On the nameberry naming advice, it says to ignore this if you love the name!

[name]Florence[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] nn [name]Florrie[/name]/[name]Flo[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] nn [name]Hattie[/name]/ [name]Harri[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] nn [name]Tori[/name]/[name]Tor[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] nn [name]Cora[/name]/[name]Corrie[/name]

I think these are classic names that you and hubs my agree on as i feel they are along the same style as [name]Violet[/name] - which, i do love btw x

We like unique, glamorous, sophisticated names, and maybe a little exotic? Please honestly tell me what you think of these, and feel free to suggest: (Last name is [name]Olson[/name])

[name]Amelie[/name] - I love it when pron. correctly. DH isn’t a fan - Since DH isn’t a fan, it’s out. It’s a problem when a dad doesn’t like his child’s name, I think.

[name]Scarlett[/name] - DH will call her “Scary” just to bug me. - DH needs to chill out. What about [name]Lettie[/name] as a nn for [name]Scarlett[/name]?

[name]Eve[/name] - too plain? I love the nn [name]Evie[/name]. But with last name it sounds like “evil son” - Yes, this is a problem.

[name]Eva[/name] - pronounced EY-va like [name]Ava[/name], still too common? - It can be pronounced like EE-vah, but then I don’t like it as well.

[name]Violet[/name] - DH loves, but it’s a little too old fashioned for my taste - [name]Violet[/name] is lovely, and there’s that [name]Lettie[/name] nn again!

[name]Natalia[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] this but will only use it as a mn b/c my name is [name]Natalie[/name] - beautiful name!

[name]Ania[/name] - DH doesn’t like it as much as I do - Sorry, I don’t like it either, but I like [name]Anya[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Annika[/name].

[name]Unique[/name], Glamorous, Sophisticated:

[name]Anastasia[/name] nn [name]Stasia[/name] or [name]Tansy[/name] - [name]Stasia[/name] is way more sophisticated than [name]Tansy[/name].
[name]Cordelia[/name] nn [name]Delia[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name] nn [name]Della[/name]
[name]Imogene[/name] nn Immie
[name]Isadora[/name] nn [name]Dora[/name], [name]Dorrie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name]
[name]Leonora[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] ([name]LAY[/name]-nah)
[name]Melina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] or [name]Polly[/name], but [name]Polly[/name] isn’t sophisticated.
[name]Tallulah[/name] nn [name]Lula[/name] - sometimes corn pone-sounding names like [name]Lula[/name] reach the heights of sophistication. At least I am thinking of [name]Lula[/name] as being really hot right now.
[name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Vivi[/name]

I agree with other posters that it sounds like none of these names work for both you and your DH. Here are some more thoughts:

[name]Evalina[/name] (nn [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name]/[name]Lina[/name])

First of all, take a deep breath : - )

As far as your list goes…

[name]Amelie[/name]- I do love this, but I also think [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Olson[/name] is a little tricky to pronounce (if you are pronouncing it [name]Ah[/name]-MA-lee)
[name]Scarlett[/name]- I think this is cute as a middle name!
[name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name]- Please, please, please, PLEASE do not have an [name]Ava[/name] variation! It is almost obscenely popular right now…I know 6 people who have had Avas last year

As far as other names go, I’ll give it my best shot lol

[name]Ainsley[/name] (means “dream”…a friend of mine named her daughter this)

[name]Hope[/name] that helps a little!

So you sound as if you like names that are sophisticated and elegant but that don’t have an old fashioned feel. I’m thinking of classic movie star names and others with the same feel. Try these on for size. * are my two favorites for you
[name]Vivian[/name] or [name]Vivienne[/name]*

I always find that it helps if you try to look at the process of naming in as relaxed a manner as possible, and also if you set yourself some requirements, as these limit your choice (I agree, there are just millions of names out there!). Perhaps say, we must use ______ as the middle name ([name]Natalia[/name]?) and so we need a name which flows with that, or doesn not end in A, or we want a name related to ______ (birds, sailing, anything which means a lot to you) or to reflect a specific nationality.

[name]Amelie[/name] - I adore this name, but I fear that the English-speaking word would forever mis-read it as [name]Amelia[/name], or not pronounce it quite correctly …

[name]Scarlett[/name] - haha, Scary is funny! But I am not so fond of this name, and it is getting popular …

[name]Eve[/name] - I don’t think that [name]Eve[/name] is plain, I think it is simple and refined; I love this name, despite its growing popularity. To eliminate the ‘evil son’ problem, you could use a name which you can then shorten to [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Evie[/name], such as [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Evelina[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name]/a.

[name]Eva[/name] - [name]Ava[/name] is beautiful, but very common, and I think this spelling would always be pronounced EE-va rather than AY-va.

[name]Violet[/name] - I don’t think [name]Violet[/name] is old-fashioned at all, but it getting very popular …

[name]Natalia[/name] - this is a lovely name; middle place it is!

[name]Ania[/name] - is this pronounced like [name]Anya[/name]? I love [name]Anya[/name]! If so, this one gets my vote.

[name]Amelie[/name] :
[name]Camille[/name]/a (nn [name]Milly[/name]?)

[name]Scarlett[/name]/[name]Violet[/name] :

[name]Eve[/name] :
[name]Edie[/name] (a nn for [name]Edith[/name], or any Ed___ name, or the initials [name]ED[/name])
[name]Ella[/name] ([name]Eleanor/name, [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] et cetera)

[name]Eva[/name] :
[name]Ada[/name] (could also be a nn for [name]Adelaide[/name] or [name]Adeline[/name])
[name]Paloma[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]

[name]Natalia[/name] :

[name]Ania[/name] :
[name]Annabel/name (popular)
[name]Olivia[/name] (very popular).

Good luck!

We named our little girl [name]Apolline[/name] (ah-poh-lea-nah) means sun goddess.
When we had our honeymoon in france, we met a little girl who had that name n since hubby always insisted on using it for ours. We do get a lot of compliments saying how lovely and unusual it is.
Am hoping it becomes more popular when harry potter film comes out end of this year or next.
Good luck in your search x

Thank you for your suggestions! I really like olivegreen’s suggestion of [name]Saskia[/name] because it sounds so exotic. I think it may be a little too shocking to name my daughter that, though. Plus DH seems a little scared of how different it sounds.

I love [name]Francesca[/name], susan, but unfortunately that is my neice’s name :frowning:

What about [name]Vivia[/name]? What image comes too mind? DH and I are kind of liking it, but I think it’s going to take some getting used to since we just discovered it today… What are your HONEST opinions??

DH told me his favorite is [name]Eva[/name] but idk if I love it anymore. Is [name]Vivia[/name] better than [name]Eva[/name] ([name]Ava[/name]) or the other way around?

[name]Vivia[/name] [name]Olson[/name]?

I think [name]Vivia[/name] is sweet and happy, and I like the way [name]Vivia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] sounds. I do like the name [name]Eva[/name], but I think it is very similiar to [name]Ava[/name]…and if you named her [name]Ava[/name], she would be [name]Ava[/name] O. for the rest of her life lol. [name]Vivia[/name] is pretty, and soft, but not boring or overused. It is kinda funny, actually, that I do not like the name [name]Vivian[/name] but I like [name]Vivia[/name]! It is just…well, like I said, it’s a happy name! It makes me think of sunshine.

As far as [name]Saskia[/name] goes, you may have already thought of this or someone might have mentioned it, but do you like [name]Sasha[/name]? It is similiar, but a little less exotic.

[name]Sasha[/name] is pretty, and I love [name]Saskia[/name] so much.
[name]Vivia[/name] is a pretty name, but I really love [name]Vivian[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Vivi[/name]!

[name]Saskia[/name] shocking? I didn’t realize it was that unusual.

(Okay, spell checker is saying it’s wrong, but it does that for a lot of names.)

[name]Amelie[/name]- I really prefer [name]Amelia[/name] and think it sounds much better with [name]Olson[/name].
[name]Scarlett[/name]- Scary!Ha! Your husband’s funny!
[name]Violet[/name] - If you don’t like it then you shouldn’t use it.
[name]Ava[/name] is pretty and it sounds really nice with your last name.
Here are some more ideas for baby [name]Olson[/name].
I think [name]Vivia[/name] is gorgeous!

I don’t think [name]Saskia[/name] is too shocking, personally

I have only known two, but it is easy to pronounce, and the pronounciation is obvious from the spelling, so I don’t think that it would be too much for people to handle. Sassy and [name]Kiki[/name] are adorable nns on a little girl, too, while the whole name would age well.

I think [name]Saskia[/name] is a great name!

[name]Natalia[/name] is my favorite from your list. What do you think of these:

[name]Clara[/name]: sweet
[name]Cecilia[/name]: I fell in love with the song
[name]Josephina[/name]: exotic
[name]Helena[/name]: old classy
[name]Gloria[/name]: quirky cool
[name]Diana[/name]: glamorous
[name]Vera[/name]: Excotic
[name]Ramona[/name]: exotic, unusual

I feel like you should give your daughter a three syllable name ending in a. :stuck_out_tongue:

[name]Hi[/name], SonKissed!

I love these suggestions you’ve been getting - I’ll add a bit (sorry for repeats!):

“unique, glamorous, sophisticated names, exotic” names…

Take care!

[name]Lemon[/name]

I like [name]Amelie[/name] the best, [name]Vivia[/name] is also very pretty.

heres some more suggestions:
[name]Emalia[/name] (One of my friends name which i think is lovely - pronounced [name]Em[/name]-a-lee-a)
