I know we’ve had threads before covering hippie names, but those were more like games. I really am discovering how much I like names that could be considered carefree or “Hippie” that either have nature connotations or musical ones, or just have really bouncy, playful sounds to them. Problem is I don’t know that many.
Super hippie names I like:

[/ul]
Names that could be considered hippie (I guess?), but are more usable:
[ul]
[/ul]
And names that I’m not sure whether they’d be considered hippie/out there, or whatever:
[ul]
[/ul]
I have no idea. My favorites in particular are in bold.
[b]What are some names you think are considered
[ol][/ol]
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] - Very sunny name. I like [name_f]Crisanta[/name_f] (which is related) too. And Chrysanthe.
[name_u]Zen[/name_u] - I don’t really like this unless you’re Buddhist? Feels a bit… Pier 1 Imports to use for no reason, iykwim. But if it relates to your spirituality that’s fine. I do like [name_m]Zane[/name_m] and [name_m]Zev[/name_m] and [name_m]Zvi[/name_m] and find short Z names very appealing.
[name_u]Rain[/name_u] - I love this too, but tend to think of it for a girl. I like it as a middle name, it’s much fresher than other one-syllable names like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_u]James[/name_u].
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]/[name_f]Posy[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Posy[/name_f], I don’t like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. [name_f]Posy[/name_f] I like as a nickname, too, for [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f] - I like this a lot. I do think of the flowers as much as the colour - wild indigo is a very beautiful plant. I like it for a girl, don’t hit me!
[name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] - Creeps me out as a given name, sorry.
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] - I love this. It’s on my list too! But while my husband likes [name_f]Andi[/name_f], I like [name_m]Rommie[/name_m].
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] more. But [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] does have a beautiful meaning, “life.” I do like a couple other names that mean that more, though, like [name_f]Viveca[/name_f], [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], and [name_f]Asha[/name_f].
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] - This is really pretty.
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] - I adore this but I can’t use it, which makes me sad. It’s really lovely.
Nanami - I prefer [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] a lot, but as far as “happy” names for boys, I like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] more.
Sansa - I think of Game of Thrones and that character was a bit of a nitwit, at least in the books.
[name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] - Prefer [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] or [name_m]Lazar[/name_m].
[name_f]Wynona[/name_f] - The [name_f]Winona[/name_f] spelling looks better to me. Very cute. I have an issue with y’s in the middle of names unless absolutely necessary.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] / [name_f]Ora[/name_f] - I do like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], but I don’t find it particularly hippie. I like a lot of mythology/goddess names.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] - I like the spelling [name_f]Margot[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] better. I know the Nameberry blurb on [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is very dismissive but I’ve found [name_m]French[/name_m] speakers who disagree and find it a valid variant.
Mylo - Not a big fan but a lot of Berries love it. Prefer [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
And names that I’m not sure whether they’d be considered hippie/out there, or whatever:
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] - Pretty. I know somebody who has a baby by this name. The mother is, yes, a bit of a hippie.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - A bit popular to feel hippie to me, I knew too many for that alternative feel. Still a nice enough name. I love [name_m]Samson[/name_m] more, but my husband loves [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
[name_m]Titus[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Ty[/name_m], but not [name_m]Titus[/name_m]. Makes me think of [name_m]Titus[/name_m] Andronicus.
Quite a few of my favorite names are on this little list: Zen {b}, Poppy, Indigo {b}, Nanami, Felix, Sansa, Sebastian.
I also really like these names mentioned - Rain, Andromeda, Sunniva, Ramona, Laszlo, Winona, Margo, & Philomena.
Edit: Forgot suggestions/more ideas:

Suzume - Japanese, means “sparrow!” Plus Suzu is a cute and snappy nn.

Ooh, I’m excited that I think I’m the first to list [name_f]Boheme[/name_f]! I have a Bohemian history (the actual location [name_f]Bohemia[/name_f], not just an artistic background, haha) and when this one started floating around after one cool blogger used it for one of her twins, I thought it was cool! “BOH-em”?
It feels very artistic/hippie/hipster to me but I like that it could also be a nod to Slavic heritage.
I have gypsy heritage and I wouldn’t be offended by that name. But my family has been pretty standard, typical matriculated Americans since we moved here, so I can’t speak at all for the people who are a part of its continuance in [name_u]America[/name_u] and [name_m]Britain[/name_m] and other places. People who identify as “[name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] American” rather than American, for example. I just never really get offended when people use words that are not trying to be insulting but are being bestowed on a beautiful baby as their little identity that comes with these complimentary connotations. I think it’s sweet. But I’m probably, honestly, not going to be the first to line up and stand on the firing squad by naming my baby one of those buzzwords.
I’m going to revisit this thread and take a second look over these awesome names later really really good ones.
I love [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] for a [name_u]November[/name_u] baby because it’s our flower! I’d use it if I didn’t think it was a little too out there fms.
Aw yay! [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] and Chrysanthe are both on my shortlist for bub due in 4 weeks. I love the energy and optimistic feel that comes with this style of naming!
From your list, I love [name_u]Zen[/name_u] and [name_u]Rain[/name_u] though I think [name_u]Rain[/name_u] is rather feminine. I also really like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. I don’t think of [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], or [name_m]Titus[/name_m] as carefree, earthy or hippy. They are nice names but not of the same style as the others in your post ([name_m]Titus[/name_m] would be closes.). A sibling set of [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] would strike me as odd as would a sibset of [name_u]Zen[/name_u] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
Girls names I like in the carfee, hippe style.
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. I can definitely see a sibset of [name_u]Zen[/name_u] and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]. This nature name makes me think of lightness and soaring.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I think of gardens and happiness.
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - a beautiful tree but a bit haunting.
Boys names I like in the carefree, hpie style
[name_u]River[/name_u] - I think of going with the flow.
[name_u]Pax[/name_u] - means peace. [name_u]Zen[/name_u] and [name_u]Pax[/name_u] would make for nice brother names.
[name_m]Asher[/name_m] - means happy.
[name_u]Jay[/name_u] - light, flight, happy.
Here’s my suggestions and I truly love these names:)
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_u]Cairo[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Banyan[/name_m]
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f]
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_f]Orchid[/name_f]
[name_f]Delta[/name_f]
That’s all I can think of right now!
Other hippie vibing names on my list of possible girl names include [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (as mentioned above), [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] (meaning happiness) and some other way out flower names [name_f]Astera[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f], [name_f]Freesia[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]. I wish Honeysuckle was useable, but that’s really dangerous territory! Chalk Dandelion up on the guilty pleasure list as well. I’ve seen word names [name_f]Evening[/name_f] and [name_f]Afternoon[/name_f] used as middles on here an I love their hippie feel. While I do think they are useable (and quite endearing!) Im not brave enough to use them for my own child.
I went to school with kids named [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] and [name_u]Rain[/name_u] (not siblings - just classmates). [name_m]Both[/name_m] useable, hippy names. I would add [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], and [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] to those.
GIRLS
[name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] - A cute name, but it reminds me of a friend I had a huge falling out with.
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] - I like [name_u]Blue[/name_u].
Zenith - I think [name_u]Zen[/name_u] is odd enough on its own lol
[name_m]Rui[/name_m] - I love the pronounciation, but the spelling would confuse people. I love the nickname Roo.
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] - I couldn’t name my child this.
Suzume - Super cute, playful, and [name_f]Su[/name_f] or [name_f]Suzie[/name_f] are definitely wearable. I love this.
[name_f]Petal[/name_f] - Very frilly, to me.
[name_f]Endellion[/name_f] - I’ve always loved this. I thought it would be the perfect sibling with [name_f]Philomena[/name_f].
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] - I loved this for a long time. I love Z names.
[name_f]Mauve[/name_f] - Its just not very fun.
Evelune - I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] names.
[name_f]Nayeli[/name_f] - Cute but I don’t know.
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] - I think I prefer [name_f]Juno[/name_f] way more. I’ve actually fallen back in love with [name_f]Juno[/name_f].
[name_u]Paz[/name_u] - Makes me think of Pez; I prefer [name_u]Pax[/name_u] better.
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] - Very interesting, neat, rebel-y. But its not my favorite.
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] - I love the sound of the name, and its origin, but “knife” is pretty violent lol
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] reminds me of an old woman.
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f] - I would prefer it if it were pronounced oh-shee-an-ah
BOYS
[name_m]Nadir[/name_m] - [name_f]Nada[/name_f].
[name_m]Rainier[/name_m] - I never figured out if it was pronounced as rain-ee-er or rain-er. [name_m]Rainer[/name_m] is cool.
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] - A creep with this last name stalked me.
[name_m]Iker[/name_m] - [name_m]Ike[/name_m] is not to my like-ing.
[name_m]Valor[/name_m] - This is more macho meathead to me. No offense!
[name_m]Noble[/name_m] - No
[name_m]Prosper[/name_m] - I’m just not a fan of most virtue names.
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f] - The only stone name I would accept on a boy is [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
[name_m]Flint[/name_m] - Reminds me of a middle aged man.
Oleander - I like [name_u]Olly[/name_u]. But I’m [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and I go by [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] lol I don’t like -ander names.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I think this is cuter on a girl.
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] - See [name_f]Topaz[/name_f]
[name_u]Jericho[/name_u] - A badass name, but the nickname [name_f]Jeri[/name_f] wouldn’t be very cute. And my Aunt [name_f]Jeri[/name_f] wouldn’t like it too much.
[name_u]Akira[/name_u] - I think this sounds cooler on a girl, even though traditionally its for a boy.
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] - the fish
Isshin - Isshin for [name_m]Marlon[/name_m]
Girls names I like in the carfee, hippe style.
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. I agree, [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_u]Zen[/name_u] do make sense!
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]. [name_f]Wren[/name_f] is a cute alternative to [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. I love it.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I can only think of Toddlers & Tiaras.
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - I used to love this, when I was much younger. I like names that end with -oh!
Boys names I like in the carefree, hpie style
[name_u]River[/name_u] - I’ve liked this name, but I love [name_u]Rain[/name_u] more.
[name_u]Pax[/name_u] - [name_u]Zen[/name_u] and [name_u]Pax[/name_u] would make good sibling names. I think they could both work as unisex.
[name_m]Asher[/name_m] - I like [name_u]Ash[/name_u], for a girl.
[name_u]Jay[/name_u] - There was this weird girl who told everyone to call her [name_u]Jay[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] and ugh…
All your names are neat, but I can’t use any of them! Especially [name_f]Orchid[/name_f]; my friend’s miscarriage was named that.
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is too close to my dad’s name, [name_m]Donn[/name_m]. [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] makes me think of the girl from Teen Mom, and she literally lives like 2 hours away from me lol. [name_f]Astera[/name_f] would be cool in theory, same as [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] would be, but there’s the Ass issue. I love [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]; its super cute. I would prefer [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] over [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]. [name_f]Freesia[/name_f] makes me think of Freeza from Dragonball Z. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a little over dramatic, I’m sorry. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] has never clicked with me. [name_f]Evening[/name_f] and [name_f]Afternoon[/name_f] aren’t something I’d ever do lol I don’t like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] names and [name_f]Afternoon[/name_f] [name_f]Delight[/name_f] plays in my head lol.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]- [name_f]Fern[/name_f] Gully!
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f]- Very cute, but I think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is easier to grow into.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]- This is becoming a trendy name, like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u].
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]- I am [name_f]Olive[/name_f] lol
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]- I like the nickname Vee.
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]- Again, I think I prefer [name_f]Juno[/name_f] more.
[name_u]Reed[/name_u]- I always thought [name_u]Reid[/name_u] would be cute with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rain[/name_u].
[name_u]Sam[/name_u]- I love [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u].
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] -the fish is back
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u]- Its become very trendy.
[name_m]Talon[/name_m]- The Warrior Cats by [name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u].
[name_u]River[/name_u]- I still like [name_u]Rain[/name_u] more.
Thank you all for responding! I like hearing your own personal opinions as well as your own likes! Hopefully others who are looking for similar name styles will get good ideas from this post too!
I know a girl named [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] and her mother was completely [name_m]French[/name_m]. Her appearance definitely showed her [name_m]French[/name_m] roots and this particular spelling suited her much better than [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. Plus, I can’t get over the spelling of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] - the second syllable always trips me up and I always feel like I need to say [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-GOT.
I love [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] but it doesn’t strike me as hippie-ish. I like names with a celestial connections like [name_f]Mira[/name_f] and [name_f]Nova[/name_f]. I can’t get over the “o” ending in [name_f]Indigo[/name_f]–I love the name but only for a boy (my husband would love to use it on a boy)
I don’t hear others suggest [name_m]Denali[/name_m] much, that could be a very unisex outdoorsey name.
I’m torn between this style and I guess you would call it “classic, older style” my short list for this bub so far is:
[name_f]Asta[/name_f] - Greek meaning star like love
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] - Scandinavian. Meaning “sun gift” - Irish [name_m]Saint[/name_m].
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] - [name_m]French[/name_m] baby name. meaning [name_f]Fairy[/name_f]. Confidence; trust; belief.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - As a female name, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is a diminutive form of [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] which means sorrow.
As a Sanskrit male name, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [lo-luh] means “moving to and fro”
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] is also the Pilipino word for grandma.
[name_f]May[/name_f] - English origin, and the meaning of [name_f]May[/name_f] is “the fifth month”. The month of [name_f]May[/name_f] was named for [name_f]Maia[/name_f], the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] earth goddess. Also a short form of the names [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Also a Sanskrit word meaning “illusion”.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] are family names from the early 1900’s.
