It has been in the back on my mind for ages now but never actually put it on a list or made any combos with it as I’m not too sure how I feel about it.
I really like place names and Caribe is the Spanish name for the Caribbean. I feel it has such a sweet and gentle vibe, also love the potential nn [name_f]Cari[/name_f].
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!
So sorry I didn’t think of adding the pronunciation to the post but I have just now. It’s something like car-EE-beh. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that makes sense!
Close(ish) to what I was thinking then. I suppose pronunciation would be a factor - how Spanish is your area vs how much it’ll get butchered by people like me. (Would they read it phonetically and go for Ca-ribe? Or Car-i-beh etc.)
I think it works well enough once I know how to pronounce it. Nms (I’m not a place name kind of person anyway) but [name_f]Cari[/name_f] as a nickname gives it something more recognisable. I’d possibly stick to [name_f]English[/name_f] place names personally, but even some of them can get butchered.
I instinctively pronounced this Cah-REEB. I think you probably will have to correct people a lot with this. [name_f]Cari[/name_f] is beautiful and I feel like people would definitely be able to pronounce this first time.
If correcting people isn’t a worry for you, then go for it!
I speak a decent amount of Spanish, so I knew how to pronounce it. I think it has a nice sound! [name_f]Cari[/name_f] is also super sweet. I personally would find this name odd on a non-Spanish speaking child, but I think I recall you mentioning at some point that you are Mexican, in which case ignore this point.
I don’t think it would be difficult to teach non-Spanish speakers the correct pronunciation.
Thank you everyone for the comments, it’s definitely nice to hear positive feedback on it but also realise a few things I hadn’t taken into consideration like the pronunciation.
