Carlo?

Any thoughts on [name_m]Carlo[/name_m]? I can’t decide if it sounds energetic and fresh or a bit pretentious. We just found out today that baby #2 is a boy so I’m diving deep into my boys list - lots of names I like on there in theory but it is a totally different thing to imagine using them in real life!!

This baby’s brother is [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and his middle name will be [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is really great. [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is pretty fantastic. That said, [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] might be even better.

I like [name_m]Carlo[/name_m]. Might be a bit biased as I have a few family members with the name. I think it sounds energetic and fresh. It is VERY Italian sounding to me so not sure about how it fits with brother [name_m]Victor[/name_m] or the middle [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. Neither of those two other names are remotely Italian.

That being said [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] doesn’t sound as mismatched as [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and Gianfranco (just as an example of another Italian name).

[name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] sounds polished and handsome. I definitely like it with big brother [name_m]Victor[/name_m]'s name.

To be honest I would find it weird in a non-Italian person. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is very English in comparison but it does bring to mind all the Italian kings and princes so oddly I think this sibset would work.

For what it’s worth, my husband is Central American and I am a mishmash of English/[name_m]French[/name_m]/Italian! We are not strongly identified as an Italian family, but are open to just about any name that works in English and Spanish. I prefer [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] to [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] because the last name ends with an “os” sound. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!

I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is okay, but I much prefer [name_m]Carlos[/name_m]; it looks more complete and is a better match for [name_m]Victor[/name_m]. I’m probably slightly biased as a Spanish speaker. Also, I think that if you live in the US, he’ll probably have to correct people since [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is not much used outside [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. It’s not a bad name though, [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is a nice combo, but not my favourite with [name_m]Victor[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is a classy name. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] are a super handsome brother set!

I agree. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] are a little odd for me too. For example, I would see [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] working, or [name_m]Vittorio[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m].

I love the name [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] and I love it combined with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Victor[/name_m]!

I like [name_m]Carlo[/name_m], I don’t see what’s so pretentious about it.

I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is a very handsome name. I prefer it to [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], as I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] has a slightly more sophisticated and unique sound. I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] does have connotations of a heritage from one of the romance language countries, but your husband being Latin American covers that, so I don’t think it would come across as strange. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] may not be a 100% match, but how much does that really matter? I think [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is great!

I think it’s a great name, nothing pretentious about it! It does somewhat lack the international flavour of [name_m]Victor[/name_m], seeming more specifically rooted in the Romance languages, and Italian in particular. However, this is accurate for your background, so I don’t see that it’s a problem in the least. If you would want something more chameleon-like, maybe something like [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_m]Marco[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m]? [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] would definitely be a brilliant choice, though.

[name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is fantastic and perfect with [name_m]Victor[/name_m] as a brother.

I love the name [name_m]Carlo[/name_m], it’s another form of [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. I find it energetic, and don’t think it’s pretentious at all.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your honest opinions, we’ll be keeping [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] on our medium list.

[name_m]Carlo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] would be a dashing choice. I think [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] are great together; it’s a very Latino pairing, even if [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] is technically Italian.
