Such a deillema. We have a 3 1/2 year old named [name]Carly[/name] and a 2 1/2 year old named [name]Carter[/name]. Everyone is telling me that we have to name our 3rd baby, who is a boy and will be born in [name]June[/name], with a C. And maybe even a Carxxx. I feel very limited with this decision and am leaning on not giving him a C name. I’m also having trouble finding a name that goes with [name]Nelson[/name]. My husband likes [name]Carson[/name] and I like that name too, but not in this context and not with [name]Nelson[/name]. Any suggestions???

With [name]Carly[/name] and [name]Carter[/name], it does seem like you’ve set yourself up for a pattern, but I definitely think you could break it. [name]Do[/name] you plan on having other children? Or will this be your last? If it’s your last it would be nice if your third baby could have another C- or Car- name, but if you plan on having at least one more after this then I think you’re fine breaking the pattern. Either way, if you don’t want to use a C/Car- name, I don’t think you have to! I know a family who had two girls, [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Haley[/name], and when it came time to name their third daughter, they were looking at other “H” names but none of them seemed to fit for them. So they went with [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], and they completely loved their decision.
[name]Carson[/name] is nice, but I don’t think [name]Carson[/name] [name]Nelson[/name] works very well… what about [name]Carsten[/name], if you want to keep the Car- thing? I believe it’s a European (not sure which nationality) variant of [name]Christian[/name]. I think [name]Carsten[/name] [name]Nelson[/name] sounds better than [name]Carson[/name] [name]Nelson[/name].
Other “C” names (maybe you wouldn’t have to go with the full “Car” thing, but just “[name]Ca[/name]”?):
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name]
[name]Christian[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]/[name]Callan[/name]/[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Corey[/name]
[name]Cavan[/name]
[name]Chad[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name]?)
[name]Chase[/name]
If you don’t go with an other “C” name, have you thought of other names you like? Without really knowing a bit more about your taste, it’s hard to give suggestions there. Maybe something like [name]Gavin[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Wyatt[/name], [name]Zane[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], or [name]Max[/name]?
Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions. I really like [name]Owen[/name] [name]Charles[/name], but am hesitant. And to make things a little more complicated. I have best friends with a [name]Chase[/name], [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Cole[/name] and my kids’ only cousin is [name]Caleb[/name].
Why are you hesitant about [name]Owen[/name] [name]Charles[/name]? I think it’s a great name, actually, and I really like [name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name], and [name]Owen[/name] as siblings…
If you’re planning on having another child, break the pattern. It would prevent you from getting stuck with naming your last child “Carbonation” or something, and you’d be able to pick any name you wanted. If not, I think sticking with a C is a good idea- but don’t worry about sticking with a Car- name.
I recommend the following with [name]Nelson[/name] if you want to stay with the hard C theme:
[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name] - I have a [name]Cameron[/name] and I love the nickname [name]Cam[/name] (Sorry! I didn’t see you ixnayed this one!)
[name]Collin[/name]
[name]Christian[/name]/[name]Christopher[/name]
[name]Cash[/name]
If you would like to keep the C but change the sound, I reccomend:
[name]Chase[/name] (or this one!)
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Chet[/name]
Good luck! If you wanted to change the starting of his name to something else altogether, what would it be? What letter or sounds do you like?
If you are to keep with a “C”, I would go with something other than Car- prefix, just to eliminate confusion/headaches. I like your idea of [name]Owen[/name] [name]Charles[/name], perhaps you could name him [name]Charles[/name] [name]Owen[/name] (to keep with the “C” theme) and he could go by [name]Owen[/name].
I wouldn’t feel the pressure to keep with the “C” theme, though…I think it could be broken and still sound good.
Best wishes!
My husband wasn’t sure that we would have more than 2 kids, but I always wanted 4. So after we went ahead and got pregnant with #3 I’m still thinking that there might be a #4. But even if we don’t have #4 I do agree that we should break the pattern just in case. I never thought picking names would be so challenging for us. What are some other favorites, not starting with a C, that go well with [name]Carly[/name] & [name]Carter[/name]?
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] & [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] & [name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] & [name]Simon[/name]
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] & [name]Owen[/name]
[name]Don[/name]'t take any notice you do not have to keep the C theme going at all and we have had this discussion on nameberry many times. I think it would be much better to go for the same style it gets really annoying when all the children have the same initial for example look at the Duggars for an extreme example. I would inwardly groan if I heard of someone giving their children a name starting with the same letter.

However if you decide on a C theme then
[name]Cruz[/name]
[name]Colton[/name]
[name]Carey[/name]
I like [name]Oscar[/name]! Great name, doesn’t start with a ‘C’, yet sounds good with his siblings because of the ‘car’ ending. [name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name]!
Or what about [name]Archer[/name]? [name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name] and [name]Archer[/name] sounds excellent! ([name]Archer[/name] nicely matches [name]Carter[/name], while nn [name]Archie[/name] nicely matches [name]Carly[/name])
Similarly I like [name]Parker[/name], although I am not sure if it is not too close to [name]Carter[/name]. [name]Oscar[/name] is my personal favorite! Good luck!
A family I know was in a similar situation. They had [name]Carter[/name], [name]Chloe[/name], and [name]Claira[/name] with twin girls on the way. A lot of people were telling them to go with two more C names, but they broke the pattern and named their girls [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Haven[/name]. [name]Just[/name] because you have [name]Carly[/name] and [name]Carter[/name] doesn’t mean you have to continue the Car- trend. Go with the name you love!
I think I would skip the whole “C” thing. What if you ended up with another after this? That would be even harder finding another name.

[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name], and [name]Campbell[/name] (I like this!)
[name]Carly[/name], [name]Carter[/name], and [name]Braxton[/name]
I was thinking it would be nice to have the hard C sound somewhere in the name, if not at the beginning. [name]Just[/name] so it wouldn’t be totally unrelated to your first two kids’ names.
If I think of any more, I will let you know!

I have a friend whose gone with the ‘C’ ‘N’ theme and her children are [name]Calvin[/name] [name]Nell[/name], [name]Claira[/name] Nae, Cordyn [name]Norbert[/name], [name]Clove[/name] [name]Noelle[/name], [name]Carston[/name] Nield, and [name]Xavier[/name] [name]Jedidiah[/name]. My point is, don’t feel pressure from everyone else to stick to a theme. Because with a bundle of kids named [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Claira[/name], Cordyn, [name]Clove[/name], [name]Carston[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name]…well, you get my point
also my first two children are [name]Emerson[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name]. Everyone told me to name baby #3 with an E name. i named him [name]Hanson[/name].
I inadvertently gave my first two kids S- names; it just worked out that way. When my third came along, I got a lot of pressure to stick with the S- theme but I really didn’t want to. We ended up going with [name]Audrey[/name], just because we loved it. I was for SURE that we were done with three but God had other plans for us and now we’re having a fourth and I’m SO, SO glad I broke the S theme!!! I cannot imagine four kids with S names. Now we have the flexibility to choose any name we love. Of course, a lot of people are now telling me that I need to pick an A name so that I have two S’s and two A’s, but I’m not listening. lol
I have neighbors with a [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Ben[/name] sibset. And my brother has a [name]Justin[/name], [name]Josh[/name] and [name]Kayla[/name]. So not everyone minds a mismatched set.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
[name]Sterling[/name] [name]Nelson[/name] is a good combo
