Carmen: strictly Spanish or international?

What do you reckon? I love the name [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] but I’m wondering if it seems very Spanish (which I am not at all!)

I have a relative named [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]! She lives in the midwestern US, with a European/Scandinavian background. Not Spanish at all, as far as I know. It fits her perfectly imo! [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is a very pretty name, and (I think) a wonderful international choice

I live in the US and I don’t think it sounds too Spanish at all! It would also be perfectly acceptable and not odd in any sense

I have a cousin [name_u]Carmen[/name_u], she is tall, white and very blonde! For me [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is very international, whereas [name_u]Carmel[/name_u] for example, not so much,.

Really?

I’ve only ever met Spanish Carmens but I’ve met tons of Irish Carmels. Guess it’s a catholic thing or something

I’m not in the US and see [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] as quite Spanish.

I’m in the U.S. and I also know a young [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] who isn’t Spanish.

The only [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] I know is Latinx but I think it could work for other backgrounds.

I think [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is international and usable even if you’re not from a Spanish speaking country.

I think it is definitely international! I have a 6 year old neighbour [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]. She is English with blonde hair and blue eyes. ([name_f]Sister[/name_f] is [name_f]Lily[/name_f]). I think it is an adorable name!

All the [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]'s I’ve known are European. I definitely think it’s international.

I think it works as an international name because of the opera, [name_u]Carmen[/name_u].

Go for it!

BTW, the only [name_u]Carmel[/name_u] I have met is an Australian whose parents mispronounced her name. She was named after [name_u]Carmel[/name_u], [name_u]California[/name_u], where they had their honeymoon. It’s pronounced kar-mel. They pronounced it kar-ml. I know three Carmellas, two with Italian ancestry.

International and great choice!

Internationalllllllll

One of my first roommates at college 35 years ago was named [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]…she was from one of the upscale suburbs outside of [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]. I’m not sure what her ethnicity was, but she was definitely American w/no accent to her speech. She’s the only [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] I’ve ever met.

Thanks all. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] it’s well-liked too
