Not a fan. I think of the character from [name_f]Laverne[/name_f] & [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] - showing my age… Sounds like [name_u]Carmen[/name_u].
I like it. If it fits the last name go for it!!!
It’s unique but classic.
I like [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] for a little girl but I’ve never been a fan of [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] for a boy. I think it’s because the only Carmines I can think of where mafia types in movies. Always bad guys, criminals. Because of all those movie / pop culture associations, I have a very negative response from the name. That being said I don’t know any real Carmines and of course those who are out there are not bad people!! If you like [name_u]Carmine[/name_u], maybe you’d like [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]? [name_m]Carlo[/name_m]? [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]?
I like it. It’s pretty interesting and unusual, but not to the point where it seems difficult to pronounce, or no one will have a clue about it…I think it’s handsome and usable.
I think it’s pretty handsome name for a boy,.
I kind of like it but it reminds me of the restuarant (Italian place that serves family style portions… But may just be the area I’m in. Its a chain but there are only a few- most on the east coast and one in [name_f]Vegas[/name_f]).
Anyway I think its a handsome name but it depends on the surname.
I’m fairly neutral on it. It’s a name I associate a lot of [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] and movies/TV shows depicting the big apple, which I don’t say negatively, just matter-of-factly. I don’t usually like male names that sound really close to female names (or vice versa), so because [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] is so similar to [name_u]Carmen[/name_u], that puts me off it a tad, but it’s objectively a good, solid Italian name that world work especially well with an Italian/Spanish/Portuguese or similar middle and/or surname.
It sounds too feminine to me…
I’d assume [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] was a girl but the name is not completely feminine to me. But is it pronounced like [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] or car-meen?
I like it but I like the retro Italian quality. It is a grandpa name I vastly prefer to some other grandpa names.
I’d much rather see [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] than yet-another-[name_u]Luca[/name_u], personally.
It doesn’t sound like [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]? I’ve always heard it car-MINE, not CAR-min?
But I am from an [name_f]East[/name_f] Coast city with a big Italian population where people would know it. I don’t know how it would play elsewhere. To me it goes well with names like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] and [name_m]Dante[/name_m], which I like as well.
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: in English I hear car-MINE, in actual Italian it’s more like car-me-nay? But not like [name_u]Carmen[/name_u].
[name_u]Carmine[/name_u] was my great grandfather’s name, who came to Pittsburgh from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] in the early half of last century. I always hear it Car-MINE when people talk about him, but he died before I was born, and not a lot of my family speaks fluent Italian anymore. His wife, my great-grandmother, was [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].
Carmine, pronounced CAHR-mee-ne in Italian, is a very sweet name for a little boy. I think it’s very sophisticated and I just love the nn Carmy!
I like it - it’s unusual these days, easy to pronounce, and spell. Go for it!
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
I wasn’t familiar with this name and if it hadn’t been in the Boys’ Names forum I would have assumed it was a girls name because I’m used to seeing the “ine” ending for girls (this is my [name_m]French[/name_m]/American bias at work).
But the more I mull it over, the more I like it!
I’m from [name_f]Italy[/name_f], and that’s the only pronunciation that immediately comes to mind, believe me, here car-MINE sounds very, very odd. Here it’s a name strongly rooted in the Southern regions, let’s say from all cities under [name_m]Rome[/name_m] in the map, especially near Naples. It’s a very traditional name, now used manly to honor ancestors, and not as a deliberate choice like any [name_u]Luca[/name_u] or [name_m]Matteo[/name_m].
I’d say pick it if you have an Italian or Italian sounding surname, or you want to honor ancestors. It would stand out everywhere for sure!
If you mean [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] for a girl, go with [name_u]Carmen[/name_u].
I’ve never heard the name before.
It sounds original and cute.
Surname is Manno. Italian!
I much prefer the Italian pronunciation, but it still reminds me of the cheesy tv character.
My first thought was of [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] Falcone, a mafia boss from the Batman series, but that’s probably only because I don’t live in an area with a large Italian population. I think it’s a very handsome name and would love to see it used!
