Carol?

Lately I’ve been crushing on this name (mainly because of the [name_u]Everly[/name_u] Brother’s song [name_f]Carol[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]…). I know most people see it as dated, tied to the 50’s and what not. But really I think if you look past that connection, there’s no reason [name_f]Carol[/name_f] shouldn’t be more popular. It is a name with solid use and history, plus it’s a word name with a good/artistic meaning. Plus with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] in the top 100 I think [name_f]Carol[/name_f] would be a great alternative.

What do you think of [name_f]Carol[/name_f]? Is it ready to make a comeback? And what would you think if you met a little girl named [name_f]Carol[/name_f]?

I know a teen girl named [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and I believe it is a marvelous names. [name_f]Carol[/name_f] seems a bit too short. Maybe as a nickname?

It’s a grandma name. Perhaps it could work for a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] baby, but I’d go with [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

I have a hard time imagining a [name_f]Carol[/name_f] under 55, but I have an aunt named [name_f]Carol[/name_f] who was born in 1957. While it could be hard to pull off, it would be refreshing to meet a young [name_f]Carol[/name_f].

Thanks for your opinions. I know it’s a dated name but I think meeting a young [name_f]Carol[/name_f] would change the image of the name you know?

I like it! There’s no such thing as a Grandma names anymore given all the Eleanors, Graces, Joys, Lucys, etc being born now [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I may be biased because I have a good family friend who is awesome named [name_f]Carol[/name_f], and I was almost named it because of my birthday being so close to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].

Sure, nothing wrong with [name_f]Carol[/name_f] It’s one of my boy cousin’s middle names too  Spelt the [name_m]German[/name_m] way I think, with a K.

I like [name_f]Carol[/name_f]… I wanted to use [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], myself, but couldn’t because so didn’t like it.

I prefer [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Carolina[/name_f]. [name_f]Carol[/name_f] still feels too dated.

I could only imagine it these days if it were for a baby born at [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] season, and with [name_f]Carol[/name_f] being the middle name.

The name [name_f]Carol[/name_f] makes me think of two ladies (one real and one fictional) and two men. The first is the gorgeous [name_m]French[/name_m]-Canadian actress [name_f]Carole[/name_f] [name_f]Laure[/name_f] (I prefer [name_f]Carol[/name_f] with an “e” at the end); the second is TV mom [name_f]Carol[/name_f] [name_u]Brady[/name_u] on “The [name_u]Brady[/name_u] Bunch”; third, is the late actor [name_u]Carroll[/name_u] O’[name_m]Connor[/name_m] who played [name_m]Archie[/name_m] Bunker and lastly, [name_u]Karol[/name_u] Woytyla, the real name of the late Polish Pope [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] II. Yes, it’s “dated” but I would find it quite refreshing in the nostalgic kind of way. I’d rather meet a little girl named [name_f]Carol[/name_f] than a [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] or [name_u]Madison[/name_u] any day.

I like [name_f]Carol[/name_f], but then I like mid-century names. And really, I don’t even think of it as a grandma-name. I’ve never really known that many Carols. To me, [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is the middle-aged name. [name_f]Carol[/name_f] feels a little more vintage to me.

I don’t see [name_f]Carol[/name_f] making a comeback. It’s really out dated. I think one of the reasons we won’t see [name_f]Carol[/name_f] become popular again is because [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] has a more fresh and pleasing sound to it.

Agree with this.

This!!!

[name_m]Young[/name_m] [name_f]Carol[/name_f] here. I really used to dislike my name, and would introduce myself as ¨[name_f]Carol[/name_f], like your great-aunt.¨ Over the years my name has really grown on me, and I can now count more positives than negatives in favor of [name_f]Carol[/name_f]:

  1. I have always been the ONLY [name_f]Carol[/name_f] in my class, entire school even. I’m a rarity without being a [name_m]Pluto[/name_m] or (insert unique name of choice here).
  2. Kids have never teased me because of my name. The worst I’ve gotten, as some of you can guess, is [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. I’d rather deal with a holiday association than a name that rhymes with luck, starts with ass, etc.
  3. Mispronunciation is NOT an issue. Along those lines, neither is spelling, except for that ‘e’ that has gotten tacked on once or twice(usually by [name_m]French[/name_m] speakers).
  4. As an adult I have found that other adults, especially of older generations, react quite favorably to my name. I used to hate how ‘safe’ [name_f]Carol[/name_f] seemed, but found new appreciation for it in college, especially in a sea of [name_u]Ashton[/name_u]/[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]/[name_f]Megan[/name_f]/Stephanies.
  5. [name_m]Long[/name_m], rich history of use and development.
  6. No worries of cultural/religious/racial appropriation of any kind.
  7. It’s a woman’s name. I think people avoid names like [name_f]Carol[/name_f] because they’re not cute/adorable/feminine enough. Well, I’m not five anymore. I am now expecting my first child and want to avoid names that I fear won’t age well. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] will grow up someday, after all.

[name_f]Carol[/name_f] is a great name. I personally prefer [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] but I do like [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. If it feels right to you, go ahead and use it. People used to think [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] where old ladies and and look how popular they are now.
